Its diverting farther from the comics with each main cast member that leaves.

I'm of the opinion that the show is better when it diverges from the comics with only adapting things instead of doing them word for word and it's at it's best when it re-mixes up stuff for example give something one character did in the comics and give it to a deifferent character on the show.

Essentially, I think the show it's better when it treats the comics as a guideline rather than a script if you get what I mean.

That was because the writing was bad because of the Showrunner, Scott Gimple.

It's generally accepted that S7 & 8 were bad and are the worst seasons but S9 is so much better.

They replaced Gimple with Angela Kang who has reinvigorated the show.

The dialogue is better, the action is better, Daryl is actually talking again instead of grunting, and the characters have stopped making stupid decisions.

On top of that the villains have made the show scary again.

most of the supporting cast were not interesting enough to carry the show.

I agree that a lot of characters during S7&8, in some cases even in S4,5,6 aka the seasons with Gimple as a showrunner didn't introduce characters that are interesting enough to watch like the OG's but IMO S9 has changed that.

S9 has made me actually care for the supporting characters again, plus it has introduced new badass characters like Magna's group which are much better on the show.

You should watch S9.
