These posts are seriously getting old. I get it, we electricians use basically anything and everything else as a hammer, but a hammer is still useful. This meme really needs to die and we should see more real electrician action on this sub. Just IMO

We're all tired of the hammer joke. But if you want better content, start posting!

I actually do, this is just a new account lol

So you don't get shocked when you use the butt of the hammer to shove too many wires in to a shallow single gang box.

Why what? I'd spend $20 on a Made in America hammer before I'd spend $5 on one shipped from overseas anyday… and I'm Canadian.

Estwing is the best made in America smacky tool in my opinion. I love the balance. I still have my grandfather's but I just use it around the house now, it got me through my apprenticeship though

jren250•

Why have a hammer when you have literally any other tool.

9

Cuz those other tools arnt hammers......

And I'd spend $30 on a Made in Canada hammer before I spent $20 on a Made in America one. Does that help?

Goddamn right murica, eagles and the flag and shit.

2
hoverbeaverIBEW•

Well y'all do seem to have a bit of a fetish for it. People lose their minds if a boy scout lets the flag touch the ground but half of the third-world underwear at Walmart seem to be star-spangled. I think when folks've swaddled their nuts in the red white and blue, the political statement being made ain't "these colours don't run" even if that's what they think.

That said, I like it when I've got a job and my neighbours have jobs. I'm lucky enough to earn a union wage working with my hands. I've got a responsibility to pay that forward, which means when I have a choice, sometimes I have to make a less cheap one. It's okay. I can afford it. Or, rather, we can't afford not to.

We make all are apprentices use these hammers.. we use them to mark the bottom of the box on residential outlets. We all have the same hammer so they all are the same height.

10
triac1975•

So .. no tape measure then?

11
ur_brain_on_drugs•

We do the same thing at my outfit. It’s most likely coincidence but the outlet height from the floor is the same as the hammer length.

7
A_Union_Of_Kobolds•

Why bother when you're already nailing the boxes to studs? If the tool is in your hand it saves time and eliminates user error since there's no tape for someone to look at wrong.

I mean, we use stuff like that all the time. You cut your wires to stripper length from the end of the box. You gonna measure them every time?

3

Tape measures are too complicated for electricians.

MrP1232007•

Stand facing wall, back straight, toes touching the skirting board. Bend leg, knee touches wall, that's socket height. Lean forward, nipple touches wall, that's light switches. No hammers, no tape measures..... But you have to do the entire house by yourself, or with your twin!

Even framers could figure out stiletto hammers are good.

Everything else Klein makes doubles as a hammer; why not actually make one? 😂

6

That's an odd one. My klein hammer is much longer and has a longer nose on it and much less of a curve to the claw. Honestly its the best hammer I've ever used. I love the long nose, awesome for hammering over sil plates.

3
zordtk•

Longer nose is a "electrician hammer" it's so you can get into the back of deep boxes. I've never owned one, I actually love my cheap Kobalt hammer with the curved handle, used to be able to catch them on sale for around 15$.

Wtf is that?

2

WHY is there a Klein Tool brand hammer, or WHY would an electrician buy a claw hammer?

2
SpcwolfOPApprentice•

Both

1
booktrash•

I quit buying klien stuff years ago , they got lax and didn't keep up with the times

2
zordtk•

I'm starting to agree, less and less of my tools are kleins. My strippers & linesmans are both milwaukee, but I still do love Klein's screw drivers and just bought a new set a few days ago.
