My SO {18M} refuses to be involved in my interests {19F}.

Throw away because they use Reddit and also frequent this sub.

We’ve been together for about two years. And things have gotten very rocky in those years. Recently I tried showing my SO a song I think he might like, but mostly because I liked it. He adamantly refused because “I already know what I like and what I don’t”. It really hurt to hear that because I’ve always tried to get involved with things he likes.

We then had a conversation were I point out that I get involved in thing that I wouldn’t have if it wasn’t for him. The only thing my SO could tell me was “I never asked you to do that so why should I be expected”. I felt so unappreciated and generally like garbage when I heard that.

Another thing to note is that I LOVE making things for him, especially art. I’m not at a professional level and most of what he likes is done at that top tier. Sometimes I’ll spend WEEKS on something and pour all of my heart out on a canvas for him. Once I give it to him it’s either he absolutely loves it or I get the kid that unwraps the avocado. Don’t get me wrong he still takes it but the tone and facial expressions do not match the words.

I know my SO is very..... definite in what he likes but I hate when I get shutdown while trying to share something. Part of the reason I started dating him was because of his strong opinions but I honestly hate the rejection. This is however my first long term relationship and I haven’t dated much before this anyway. Is this normal in relationships? Am I pushing too much or expecting too much? I’ve been evaluating the relationship and there are other things I’ve been questioning but this is a major one. Any feedback (even if I am the asshole) is appreciated. Thank you for reading.

Tl;Dr - My SO doesn’t want to get involved with my interests because they “know what they do and don’t like”. And me pointing out the fact that I try to be involved is followed by a “well I never asked you”.
