I started the game yesterday cuz of IOS release. I've been griding the same place at least 15+ times. I still can't get anything close to 230. Closest i've gotten is 227 with a level 2 power gear. Any tips on what i should do?

Level up the power gear to lvl 3 and youll be set. Power gear will increase your CP and have you meet those requirements.
A good thing to remember is or doesn't actually matter if you don't complete the island, the ores are what you need most as they give you your buffs. Until this island, you got better Rare Ores (78 gears and up to 4 summon gears) once you progressed further but now you don't so there's literally no benefit of progression apart from higher CP mons to get high in the rankings. Even then, first place gives you 150 diamonds which is equal to 5 hours of refining time, so don't get too caught up on competing the island, just make sure you always have ores being refined.
Arguably however with the new tournament system (before there were only 4 tiers, maxing out at 20k) you will need better mons for the higher tiers which will require you to beat more super bosses for higher CP mons, so I guess there is a need. The benefit of this however is just more money that can only be spent on upgrading gears, so it's all about the gears.
It's not that important however, I feel your main hold back will be strong gears at this point so just grind the ores and do whatever touranement you can to get coins for them. A good tip is that even if you dont beat a tournament you get the coin reward for the one below so always go for the hardest one
protip: you don't have to be at the recommended cp level to beat super bosses. i beat froslass with a <1100cp combusken when the recommended value was 1440. you may fail a few times but once you figure out the pattern, you can work around that and clutch the fight

well if you dont know anything about the game heres is a resume:
grind ores especially the rare ones (10hs)
find a good spot with good pokemons to beat the boss and grind it until you get the one with the cp you want
dont be in a rush this game is about patiance and farming you will get there just keep farming a upgrading your gear it will get
