{Part 1}: What is a GPX Route?

Answer: It is a set of coordinates made up of PokeStops and Gyms for your trainer to walk precisely from one point to another point.

{Part 2} Frequent Asked Questions about GPX Route

  • Can you use this with Gotcha / Pokeball Plus / Go Plus ?
    • Yes.
  • Which spoofing methods does this work with?
    • Yes for iSpoofer.
    • Yes for Android with Smali Patcher or Systemized spoofing method
    • Maybe for No Root Android because it depends on your spoofing app and device. It works on some devices but not on all of them. The only devices where it works 100% without any problems are the ones I wrote yes for.
  • Can you get a strike on your account for using GPX Route?
    • Yes, you can because you are using a spoofing app are you not?
  • What speed should I walk at?
    • I think 9 Km/h is the maximum, but some people use alittle higher.
    • For Paris Mall, Budapest Maraget Island, and small parks, you should use 5 to 6 km/h. This will allow you to walk slower and give your Gotcha / Pokeball Plus / Go Plus enough time to catch Pokemon and spin PokeStops.
  • Can I leave my device on overnight to farm buddy candies?
    • Yes if you want, but I am not sure if there is a limit.
    • Do it at your own risk because I am not liable if your device explodes from overheating and/or gets screen burn-in.
  • Do I need to leave the screen on?
    • Yes and No, but this depends on the device and whether or not you have a Gotcha / Pokeball Plus / Go Plus device connected. You would have to try it to see if you do or do not have to leave the screen on.

{Part 3} Where do I find GPX Routes?

Answer: Use the search and search for "GPX Route" to find GPX Route posts (marked with a unique post flair tag). You can also find them on other websites and in some Discord groups.

{Part 4} What do I need to do this?

  1. Windows PC (For a Mac you will be on your own, since I do not own a Mac) with all required accessories.
  2. Notepad for .txt file editing

{Part 5} Instructions for Windows PC with Notepad application

  • All Windows based OS has a Notepad application built in the OS for free.

Step 1: Enable "File Extensions" , see this link: How to Force Windows Explorer to Always Show You the File Extensions

Step 2: Find a post with GPX Route, for example: GPX route for Comic Con and will be using this throughout the guide.

Step 3: Right click on your desktop > New > Text Document > should see a "New Text Document.txt"

  • If File Extensions are not enabled, you will not see the .txt at the end of the filename.

Step 4: Open your New Text Document.txt file and go to Format > Click on Word Wrap.

Step 5: Copy and Paste the entire post (but I shorten it) and should look something like this below or this picture link example:

Step 6: Hit Enter at the end of each coordinate to put them on their own line. If you do not do this the website will fail to convert at the end.

Step 7: Delete this because this is not important:

Step 8: It should look like this in Notepad:

Step 9: Highlight and copy this part only (exactly how you see it below):

Step 10: Go to the top, click Edit > Replace > Paste into the "Find What" box and leave blank for "Replace With" because this will delete it from each line for you.

Step 11: It should look like this after you click "Replace All" then close the window (DO NOT CLOSE NOTEPAD):

Step 12: Highlight and copy this part only (exactly how you see it below):

Step 13: Go to the top, click Edit > Replace > Paste the following it into the "Find What" box and added a comma for "Replace With" because you need a comma between the "latitude,longitude" coordinates. This is different from Step 10. It should look like this:

***Make sure you keep the negative symbol in your coordinates.***

Step 14: Highlight and copy this part only (exactly how you see it below):

Step 15: Go to the top, click Edit > Replace > Paste the following it into the "Find What" box and leave blank for "Replace With" (Remember to remove the comma). Then it should look like this:

Step 16: Save the txt file and rename it to the name of the area or park.

Step 17: Go to this website: https://www.gpsvisualizer.com/convert_input?convert_format=gpx&force_type=r&units=us

You will use the "Or paste your data here:" box because it works correctly.

You must add this line "latitude,longitude" first then your coordinate list. It should look like this:

  • Do not need elevation and any other information.

  • If you use Android and want to loop the route, you basically copy and paste a set of coords multiple times. This will make your trainer walk endlessly until the route is completely finished. For example, the route above is 3 km total. If you paste it multiple times like 5 times below, it will become a 15 km route.
    • Small park or area: up to 30 times
    • Big parks: up to 10 times
    • Cities: leave it as is
    • If you overdo the pasting, you can cause your spoofing app to freeze or crash.
  • It should look like this without "(Start) & (Finish)":

Step 18: Change "Force text data to be this type:" to for the following spoofing app you use.

  • Route Points for ?
  • Trackpoints for iSpoofer
  • Waypoints for Fake GPS Joystick and Route Go & GPS Joystick
  • If you do not know which one to use, try all three because only one of them will work and the others will give you an error.

Step 19: Click "Convert". Do not change any other settings.

  • You can download the .GPX file and stop here, but this is a one-time route.
  • On iSpoofer, you have a setting in the spoofing app to loop the route, so you just keep walking the same route forever until you stop it. You are pretty much done here.
  • If you are on Android, you should copy and paste your converted GPX coordinates into a New Text Document.txt file. This will save you time from putting each coords on its own line if you want to edit it in the future.

Step 20: Save the file with the name of the area or park.

Step 21: Close Notepad.

Step 22: Click on the filename > hold down the Right Arrow button to move the cursor all the way to the right

Step 23: Press backspace to delete ".txt" (dot txt) then type in ".GPX" (dot GPX).

Step 24: Press Enter

Step 25: Click Yes on the rename pop up box "If you change a file name extension, the file might be unstable. Are you sure you want to change it?" = YES

Step 26: Transfer the file to your phone and use it.

For FakeGPS Routes users, this is what i normally do for those iSpoofer GPX routes, edit the file in text editor.

Delete the following xml tags

<trk> <name>0</name> <trkseg></trkseg></trk>

Replace all occurences of "<trkpt" to "<wpt" and "</trkpt>" to "</wpt>"

Thanks, i would edit the speed thing.
up to 10 km/h for goplus catchinig, goplus spinning, egg hatching and buddy candy.

up top 30 km/h for only goplus catching and goplus pokestop spinning.

Just a very minor correction. A GPX Route can be any set of coordinates and unrelated to pokestops and gyms. In fact some of the best routes are the ones not automatically generated from pokestop coordinates but made by someone taking the time to strategically lay the route out.

This guides is a great start. Would be nice to add information about how to create your own routes using GPS Joystick or iSpoofer.

I have a set of coordinate for my hometown, but I have problems to ordinate them. I've research some info on travelling salesman problem but I didn't find any easy way to create the best path between these stop. Anyone have an idea ?

You've got two choices here.

  1. you could pursue your PhD in either Computer Science or Mathematics

  2. you could use a program already written by experts in the field

Really comes down to how much you like graph theory I'd say.
