Should I be challenging my first month bill because my home number hasn't ported yet?

I just got connected with Exetel NBN last Friday. Everything ran smoothly and happy with the connection.

However part of the deal was to port my home phone over as well - that is yet to be connected and I currently have a dead home phone line. I was told by Exetel that it takes about 10 days for the number to port. I've been told not to cancel the number with Dodo until the number is active with Exetel. So......

  • My first bill is showing I've been charged since the day of connection, which is last Friday. Should I be contesting that, as the monthly charge is for NBN AND my home phone per month. Since I'm going to be without a home phone for a large chunk of the first month, that charge doesn't seem fair.
  • Since I've been told not to cancel with Dodo yet, I'm still getting charged with them I assume? My Dodo plan was an ADSL/Home phone bundle. Can I just cancel the ADSL aspect with them and leave the home phone, or is it best not to touch any part of the Dodo service until the port completes?
