PlayStation servers for next gen, how will you all expect them to perform?

Knowing that Sony is going all out on online services next generation, we can already assume the PS5 will have a pretty good WiFi card built in for people who use it (who would also be the majority. One issue I’ve experienced time and time again on PSN is the slower than usual speeds when it comes to the download it has compared to a regular PC or even Xbox.

I know I can’t be the only one, because even when I switched to LAN cable, my speeds increased a lot but it’s still capped out at around 100mbs max when I get around 400mb on anything else. Does anyone expect Sony to improve these speeds, especially since streaming and Playstation Now will be a huge part for the company going forward? I’ve heard Sony caps speeds out purposely to make it easier on the servers and it’s cheaper as well, but I can’t verify that. I hope they can at least remove that low cap, because it’s really annoying that the PS4 is just overall slower internet wise than the competition, including the Switch, when it comes to the base PS4’s WiFi.

That’s interesting. Sony has always felt behind when it came to networking since the PS2 era, I understand they aren’t a software company but it’s about to be 2020 and the servers feel like they haven’t improved upon the infrastructure since 2014 and the release of PS Now. Microsoft Azure can hopefully help a lot but it doesn’t seem like Sony is jumping on it for PlayStation at the moment

I hope it gets better. I'm in the same situation as you, all other devices download files a LOT faster, hopefully they remove a cap if there is one/improve the speed. It would be nice for the device in my house to do the most downloads of big sizes to use the full capability of my network speed

They did strike a deal with Azure and Azure is amazing and has been booming for a while. But that is unrelated to the console connectivity hardware. I really hope they do fix that. Heck, maybe the next consoles (or future iterations of them) will have 5G chips? No?

i hope that they make dedicated server that any game can use it, it's good because the game with small or medium budget can have better online connection.

100 is a dream.

I have similar bandwidth, ethernet and can be glad if it downloads with up to 10 Mbit not matter what I try and that's only a prob with PSN.

Weird, on bad days I only get 90 - 100 Mbit from PSN but generally get 250Mbit. I guess it depends of the location. I live in scandinavia.

It seems somewhat better already. When I first got my Pro I could hardly even access the store, but now they are finally able to take my Money more reliably lol

I would pay £5 every month for dedicated servers in every multiplayer game.
