Hot Take: NYK should load up for Devin Booker

It seems every year now there’s at least one star that’s disgruntled and requests a trade. I see DBook being that guy in the next season or two. Phoenix has not done anything but tank, and just did terrible in the draft/offseason.

If DBook wakes up and realizes he needa go, we should be trying to quietly acquire assets to go after him. Think about how Boston was loading up for years for AD, but to a lesser degree. I’d say 2 firsts, a second and a young guy could (theoretically) get it done.

And don’t look now, but if we get this done before 2021 free agency... imagine who we can attract to come play at the Mecca. Just what I think would be a fantastic move. What y’all think?

Going from the Suns to the Knicks is pretty much a lateral move basketball-wise, I mean the Knicks have been just as bad as the Suns these past few seasons. Unless he just really wants to go to a big market I don't see why he'd wanna come here. Also your offer is incredibly underwhelming. Booker is 22 years old and just put 27/4/7 on great efficiency. I know people will call them empty calorie stats but he's still a great talent regardless. You would never be able to get Book without including RJ and at least 2-3 first-round picks + some other pieces

OP is suggesting a trade, Booker has no choice in the matter

True. I just kinda meant that when most stars request trades they generally give their team a shortlist of where they'd like to play. Like Kyrie had a couple teams as preferred destinations, Butler, AD, etc. Not that those lists entirely matter, but trading for a disgruntled star who doesn't want to play for your team might not be a good idea

ehh idk, Mavs weren't on KP's preferred trade lists and he just re-upped with them. when it comes to trading for a young star like booker you just gotta do it and believe that you can convince him to buy into what you're doing

You get one guy in a major market & don't totally hamstring yourself with a death cap (Melo Age), other players will come.

KAT and Mitch omg

I agree, people talk about 2021 free agency being the goal, but I think the plan is to snatch the next disgruntled star like Book or KAT. We have very desirable short-term contracts to match max money and picks/young players. When I say desirable I mean flexibility-wise not the quality of player.

Isn’t KAT more suited for the C position though? Idk if he has the lateral speed to keep up with PF’s and we have Mitch as our cornerstone at the 5. I could be wrong if someone wants to clarify I already know he stretches the floor well and is a below average defender.

Mitch has the lateral speed to keep up with PFs. And KAT has the offensive game of a 4. It could work maybe. KAT is another guy that grew up right outside NYC that may be looking at "coming home."

where are you getting that these guys are disgruntled? have they given any indication that they want out? i mean demarcus cousins was disgruntled for years in sacramento. they still didn't trade him until they were ready.

My sources have told me... No it's just an example of two stars on teams that have underachieved and may want out eventually. Booker has 5 years left on his deal I'm gonna read the tea leaves on that one with their front office. Also with how the west is looking now Minnesota isn't likely a playoff team in the next year or two and KAT may want out. Not from anything I've read or heard just situations that we've seen players want out of in the past.

My top target is KAT but Booker wouldn't be a bad plan B.

Yeah KAT definitely would be better now that you mention it. But to imagine DBook and Knox handing everyone buckets buy one get one free every night.. must hide erection

We don't need KAT we have Mitch

With the GS era looking like it'll soon be in the rear-view mirror, and with the way Toronto won with a huge front line - Siakim / Gasol / Ibaka - and with Philly loading up with Embiid & Horford, is it possible that the league starts to swing back. But this time instead of having true pivot PF & Centers with their back to the basket, you have versatile faceup, drive & shoot bigs.

If thats the case, and KAT keeps getting better at spacing the floor, with Mitch learning how to guard on the permeter without fouling, maybe that's a duo that can work.

Just some thinking outloud there.

KAT seems way more likely in that sort of scenario than Booker.

I’m pretty sure he was a knicks fan growing up too!

I don't disagree with this.

In fact I'm pretty sure that NY has these contracts specifically to be opportunistic when disgruntled stars become available.

2
EscaperX•

he's not available for another 4 years, and phoenix has absolute zero incentive to trade him. they love him there, and it would take more than we would want to spend to get it done.

Booker is only 24, puts up MVP stats & is locked up until 2024. There’s no way Suns entertain trading Booker. No way! Why even make this post?

I like Booker but he's also very injury prone

Has two many years left on his contract. Cost would be astronomical

That's true but get him on a team with Championship talent & aspriations, that might change real quick.
