I'm one year in and still not entirely sure how to play the loot game...

Question

Any help at all would be appreciated. I've been playing for around a year now, but only really been playing enough to reach end game in the last month or so and am at LL709ish. I'm not really sure what items I should keep and what I should dismantle.

Do I keep all exotics I earn and infuse to keep the power levels up?

Should I dismantle all purple gear I earn that is lower light level than what I currently have?

Should I be turning in my materials for engrams, even though they are delivering items below my current LL?

I feel like I've missed the memo for how a lot of this stuff works and the best techniques to use.

so having a lot of legendaries piled up, you recommend I dismantle them and just keep my strongest?

Based on the replies above I’d say yeah that seems about right.

Play the solstice event dismantle everything but the solstice gear. Everything changes when shadowkeep launches

can you expand on what you mean by “everything changes”?

I'm not 100% sure but I just now all of our old gear with the exception of the solstice gear will be irrelevant. I know Rick khakis posted a video about the update which is worth watching

That’s just armour though right? What about weapons?

Yeah. As for weapons just use whatever feels right for you. And your highest light lvl. Just use whatever feels good for you the whole weapon system is changing so don't stress to much about what to dismantle
