The finale is the end of the story. But can continue. Here's why...

Spoiler

Euphoria is about characters. Specifically, teenagers, their emotions, and their relationships (esp. with parents). Since, there's a season two, I think some things got altered into cliffhangers. However, every main character comes to a realization in the end:

Nate: fears weakness. Hates his weak mother and brother. Resorts to violence to feel strong. Possible fueled by his father's rhetoric and "dominating" others in the sex tapes. His father made him realize he is powerless, so he has a breakdown. Additionally, Cal realizes his entire life is a lie.

Kate: insecure about attractiveness. She put on a facade but as we see, it's fake. Ethan made her face her insecurities and accept that she doesn't need to change to be loved.

Jules: fears being trapped. Trapped in her body, gender norms, the town, a psych ward, her relationship with rue. She leaves and is free.

Maddy: Driven by making men feel good to get what she wants. Realizes she can't sacrifice her well being for Nate.

McKay: realizes his future is not what he imagine and must come to terms with that. Probably the weakest storyline but a necessary one, I think.

Cassie: fears abandonment. Realizes she needs to stop falling in love with every boy she meets.

Rue: Hers is the saddest. I think the ending got changed when it got renewed. But I think she was meant to OD and die, which for her is her only escape. She's "doing it all for love" because she doesn't want to be a burden on anyone. I'm not 100% on this, but evidence supports it. She says she's a burden at the halloween party. She realizes her swings will never end. Her mother speech about the difficulties the come with Rue plus the flashback to fight when her mother says Rue's "mental." Lastly, I listened to the song like ten times. It sounds like she wants her family to be free of her. Rue thinks existing is selfish. "Dreamers are selfish." But this is probably the darkest interpretation.

What's your interpretation of the ending?

I just recently posted about my interpretation of the ending but anyways

I think there was a theme between love/family and drugs. And for rue i think the line is thin. When she relapsed, it almost felt like she was visiting her past self. Why? Because her high felt like she was finally back at home, with her family, prior to her dad dying (cause to rue, thats the period in which she felt the most whole). And thats why she was hugging them.

She stumbles passed the corridors signifying her instability as an individual (but also because shes high as fuck) but when she reaches the kitchen she becomes less unstable because she has the support of her family. Her dad hugs her and lets go. Signifying her dads death. After that, the scene becomes hectic and chaotic, which is what happened to rue after her dad died.

So i think that last scene was a summary of of her life and i dont think she OD'ed at all.

I don’t think she was ever meant to die simply because of Fez’s ending. Having two cliffhangers leads me to believe that they meant for her to live, and were always hoping to get renewed, but made it ambiguous enough to work if it didn’t get renewed.
