Pop quiz, asshole: You're at a gas station and an eleven year old boy approaches you and asks you for a ride home. What do you do?

This morning on the way to work at about 9am, I stopped for gas, and I noticed a young boy lingering around the gas pumps, talking to people for a moment. Most of the people immediately brushed him off, and then he'd go and talk to someone else.

The boy approached me and asked me if I was headed towards his neighborhood. This neighborhood is about 4-6 miles from the gas station.

The following conversation ensues:

Boy: Are you headed towards <neighborhood>? Me: Not really, but what's up? Boy: Well, I'm trying to get a ride home. Me: What's your name? Boy: Roselle Me: Where are you coming from, Roselle? Boy: I was at a friends house. Me: How did you get to your friends house? Boy: I walked. Me: When did you walk there? Boy: I walked over there yesterday. Me: Where are your parents? Boy: At work. Me: Where is your house? Boy: <gives street address> Me: Why couldn't your friend's mom give you a ride? Boy: Well, she was in a rush, and told me I had to go home, but she couldn't take me.

More info: I live in Florida, it's blazing hot outside, the kid is sweating. The kid is dressed in what I would imagine every other 11 yr old boy would be wearing in Florida while they're out of school for the summer: Athletic-type shorts and a T-shirt. His clothes were relatively clean, and just had some stuff on them here and there, what you might expect a young, adventurous boy to have on his clothes. He was holding a red soda and had a red mustache from said soda. It looked like he had recently bought the soda in the store.

My first thought was the fact that the kid was so young, and that I didn't want to be an accessory to any crime, or accused of kidnapping or child molestation or something crazy like that. Lets get real, this is 2010, and stranger shit has happened.

So, what do you do, Reddit? After we have some answers, I will tell you how the rest of the story went.

UPDATE Sorry I couldn't update my post earlier, but I was at work, where we have IE6, and its not possible to update a post with IE6.

So, I drove the kid home. He told me where to turn, etc, and when we arrived at the place he brought me to, it was exactly the address that he spouted off at the gas station when I asked him for his address.

Due to the overwhelming "call the police"-type responses from this thread, I called the Sheriff's department, and gave them my name and phone number, the kid's name and the address where I dropped him off. While we were in the car on the way to his house, he told me that his dad worked for the Sheriff's department, and I provided the dispatcher with his father's name, too. I haven't gotten any phone calls, yet.

Reddit, thanks for your input on this. I never imagined that this little post would explode the way that it did.
