How propaganda works: Casting blame on people instead of problems.

So going to a few subreddits, I follow certain stories that become real pains in my ass. I follow the FBI because they lie like they breath. They're also incompetent but the biggest issue from FBI conspiracies is when they leave out valuable context to tell you their version of events. The FBI preserves the lie but that can also apply to regular stories of BS. Let me make this clear... If you're not targeted media like MintpressNews, you're likely to be infected with some form of propagandistic news.

Slate has this problem. On one hand, you can read about the election fraud going on with Republicans. On the other, as a (neo)liberal site, you aren't going to read about Democratic voter suppression all that much. So you have to take what they say with a grain of salt.

For the socialists out there, there's a different critique and analysis. They ain't the left. What is the point of viewing their content? To point out the missing context.

Case in point. Meet Evan Urquhart. Evan believes strongly that a bunch of anonymous posters is responsible for school shootings.

That connection is Gamergate, the campaign of misogynistic harassment by aggrieved gamers that began in 2014, and which moved to 8chan from 4chan when the latter refused to allow Gamergaters to use that board for coordinated harassment campaigns and doxing.

Evan TELLS you that it's a movement. You aren't allowed to have fancy things like the First Amendment. The government should be able to spy on you.

But notice Evan's articles for yourself and show what their bias is...

In Praise of Hillary Clinton’s Male-Gaze-Defying Style

Jussie Smollett’s hate crime hoax won’t change anyone’s beliefs around victims of bias.

The Best Way to Play Video Games Is So Fast You Don’t Notice the Story

So what's the context here? Evan has gender dysphoria. There's certainly a number of stories in the links above to point that out. But Evan also has strong apologism to the neoliberal establishment. So in any way Evan can, the story becomes how to hate on Republicans and play tribal politics. This comes at the expense of gamers. Supposedly, gamers are considered a conservative group. As such, it's an easy and safe target. The neoliberal establishment is weakened and not looking to coalesce "gamers" into them, but circle the wagons for their support. These are all suppositions that lack context because Evan ignores them for a biased narrative to support the neoliberal establishment. As it stands, this propaganda creates the mirage that gamers are the problem.

Consider this: Gaming itself is a $140 Billion Dollar industry and only looking to go up as more people play games. Do you think the billions of people that play games are going to take their time for violence or is it just Evan using a convenient moral panic to scapegoat and fearmonger just like their Republican counterparts?

Context matters. America is a violent nation that has overthrown 84 countries since the end of WWII. We've had police murder more people than terrorists and we have a history of slavery and genocide that has gone unnoticed in the last 400 years of history. The finger can't be pointed at gamers...

It can be pointed at American vigilantism and the roots of America's inherent violence:

The reason that coverage of right-wing vigilantism is mostly confined to endless accusations of hypocrisy is that to discuss the why would violate too many injunctions against radical analysis. Just as capitalism is defined by unemployment, boom/bust cycles, and racism, so is it defined by a higher degree of tolerance afforded to extrajudicial reactionary violence. The sanctioning of right-wing vigilantism is inherent to capitalism.

The state in a capitalist society exists to serve moneyed interests, so private groups likewise acting to serve those same moneyed interests will be afforded leeway, help, and a blind eye far more often than groups challenging those moneyed interests. This remains true even if those conservative interests are acting illegally or abhorrently; and even if those progressive challengers are following the law to the letter and behaving as saints. Since this is built into capitalism, it’s been the case since the transition from feudalism, as Gerald Horne explains:

The promiscuous use of mercenaries was a close cousin to the deployment of pirates, buccaneers, and soldiers of fortune, whose bloodthirsty escapades often were the basis of the primitive accumulation of capital itself. One scholar has observed that the concept of “plausible deniability,” which has served imperialism so well in episodes ranging from Watergate to the Iran-Contra scandal, was actually invented by rulers in the early seventeenth century as a spur to mercenarism and piracy: thus, if these bandits obtained the necessary booty—fine—and if they did not or were apprehended, then responsibility for their activity could be denied.

Evan will always find a clickbait article to stir up emotions among the masses, but will never solve the problem. Evan ignores context severely to come to an antagonizing conclusion. It is up to the left wing to learn the biases of people and publications and how to navigate the public to the truth.

If you truly want to solve the problem of America's violence, don't exacerbate the problem. Find the solution.
