Intrastate Move; Submitting 5320.20 Retroactively

I searched the sub and online, but I was looking for feedback from y’all

I went from TN to TN and I have moved my SBR and a couple cans a few weeks ago now. I’m getting around to submitting my 5320.20. Should I just write the approximate date I moved the items?

I read on some NFA attorneys site that said you need prior authorization but it didn’t clarify if interstate or intrastate.

Legally you don't have to, but I did for mine after I filed Form 20s to go shooting in neighboring states and they were rejected as the new home address didn't match the registry.

In my case I listed the current date that I filed the form, no point in backdating or anything since it was in state.

You didn’t have to do it within the state.

I’ve heard you do and you don’t. And I read you do for SBR’s and don’t for silencers. I’m not sure, I do have to file a F4 if I ever get my BOGO can for SilencerCo so I’d have to update my address for that. IIRC a few years ago I got in some argument with the NFA branch about moving whether or not I had to and she had exclaimed “WE NEED TO KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE” I may call again and see but the answer may change depending on who you talk to.

ATF don't need to know anymore than the law says they do.

They can fuck off on intrastate moves.

It's interstate or foreign export. That's what the form says on it. But, if you fill out the form with your new address, indicate that it's a permanent move, they will update their records accordingly.

Legally you do have to. At least that's what page 3 of my approved Form 1 says.
