Old Fashioned Letter-Writing Campaign

I think all of the support of this community to getting the OA renewed is fantastic. I love all the ideas about filling up all forms of social media with #savetheOA and all forms of videos and photos of 'the movements.'

Here's my idea, (apologies if someone else wrote about it) If every person in this subreddit sent one paper letter to the Netflix headquarters written Attn: Reed Hastings, CEO, the physical impact of that would be huge! All of the social media stuff is great, but imagine him coming to work one day and he sees just boxes and boxes of letters dumped on his desk (or likely his administrative assistants' desk) would be amazing. Here are their corporate addresses: https://help.netflix.com/en/node/2101

And if we each sent a handful of letters (or more), just think of that impact!

I know I'm going to write a couple letters myself--but maybe someone in the group who is more organized than I am could create a letter template and organize people around the idea. Maybe to make it easier for them to sort, we could write the #SaveTheOA on the outside of the envelope too!

Anyway..just a thought. I know all of us combined have a shot at saving this show!

EDIT: we are aiming to have letters and postcards arrive at Netflix on Friday 8/16.

And let’s keep the letters coming every Friday until it is renewed!

The template idea is a good one, but I also think each writer should speak from the heart, maybe in a different section of the letter. The OA has impacted all our lives in such different ways!

But since an earlier thread mentioned that the people making decisions don't even check social media, I agree that this would make much more of an impact (beyond creating the buzz that Twitter etc. can create).

I love old fashioned letters, I think they pack the most punch. I am so down.

We should plan a day to do this all at once. Create the biggest impact. How about the 16th?

I like the idea of an onslaught of letters all at once. I know the post office takes different amounts of time to deliver mail depending on your distance from the Los Gatos zip code (usually 1 to 3 business days). But yeah, if we pick a date we all want the letters to arrive, then plan our send date roughly how long we think it will take to arrive, that will be great! I wrote two letters, one to Mr. Hastings, one to Ms. Holland with similar messaging. Then my housemate also wrote two similar ones--so between us, we have four going out the door with only about 5 minutes of effort. If everyone can do this, it would make quite the impact. If people land on a specific date--I'll hold sending mine until then. I'm fine with the 16th. Does that work for others? If there were a way to get this added to a sticky area, that would get the most impact--similar to the change.org post. Maybe we could write a simple post with the instructions, the date to send, a sample letter template (with room for personalization), and ask a moderator to add to the top of the page? (I'm really new to reddit, other than lurking here and reading the fan theories for 3+ years :), but this is really only my second post, so not sure how to make all that happen!

That’s what I was thinking. In my mind that moment in a movie where a huge bag of mail is poured out on her desk with all the letters spills on her desk happens. And she doesn’t open them until late that night with a bottle of vodka she opens one out of curiosity and cries all night, blubbering and calls up Brit and Zal to tell them they have their seasons, heck, make it 10 seasons, she’ll sign a contract right now!

or maybe sending to ATTN: Cindy Holland instead (or ALSO!)

I think this a phenomenal idea

I like this idea too. None may actually make it to his desk, but assistants will read them and summarize the message and how many.

A few tips: Please double check for spelling and grammar. Read it out loud to see how it sounds. Be respectful.

I personally feel the canceling threat will not be well received, but if you do, do so in a matter of fact way and politely.

It's always good to start out with something positive first, like how great it's been to have Netflix supporting independent voices in film and series.

Someone posted the producers emails yesterday. I'm reposting: Jeremy and Dede [email protected] [email protected]

Here is a sample letter template that anyone could use as a starting point, or adjust as they wish. I think personal letters are best, but even just the sheer volume of mail will make a difference, I hope.

I'm on board. Our ability to Twitter storm is nothing compared to the billions of tweets out there. Even 1000 letters is huge.

We could do postcards instead of letters. That way all information is on the outside without even having to open. I doubt they are literally going to open and read each letter. Send a postcard from your area, #savetheoa in giant letters, and a short note what it means to you.

adamArriva2001OP•

I love the postcard idea! It’s cheaper to send them, easier for Netflix to read, allows countless mail carriers and Netflix staff to see our message (because it’s right there!!!) and maybe watch the show or join the movement themselves. PLUS, postcards are just fun. It would be cool to see all of the interesting locations that they are sent from—and help magnify the message of how far the OA’s reach truly is!!!

Let’s nail down this date: 8/16–get as many pieces of physical mail to Netflix influencers as possible!! Spread the word!

The key is to not make this generic. Like really spill your guts on how this show changed your life. Make it a tearjerker if you can. Appeal to their souls.

I agree! Make it personal. Whoever reads it should feel what we feel!!

Someone in the discord mentioned that the address on the template is the customer relations address and suggested sending letters and mustard to their executive address instead --> 5808 Sunset Boulevard Hollywood CA 90028 addressed to Cindy Holland or Ted Sarandos

I updated the template with the address you provided.

Question- are we sending letters/postcards on 8/16 or trying to get them there by 8/16?

1
adamArriva2001OP•

We are aiming for their arrival at Netflix on the 16th.

I updated the very first post on the thread to make it easier to find the info. We’ll aim for mail to arrive at Netflix on Friday 8/16 and EVERY Friday thereafter. So keep sending!!
