Fairly good story but goddamn dude.. you need to proofread and work on your English. This was absolutely brutal to read.
Edit:a word, the irony
I have no idea what the last paragraph was trying to convey.
Fairly annoying comment but golly, man... you need to proofread and work on your spelling. This was positively atrocious to read.
lol
Yeah, trying to remember the details of something 20 years back, through a period of history fogged with copious quantities of Bacardi, and countless other substances, wasn't easy.
I've never met a startup band that had liability insurance.

My best friend asked me if I wanted to hang out while she did half a day of selling some craft stuff she makes as a hobby at some town bazar/flea. She had to pay a fee to have a booth. Sales were okay; glad she does it for fun and not income. There were a couple people playing guitar and singing and they had a tip jar out front. At the end of the day while we were packing up the event organizers came around and asked all the vendors to give $5 each to the guitar people. Apparently, attendees weren't impressed enough to tip and now the vendors were being asked to pay instead of the organizers, who asked them to play.
Your party had 3000 people. Who were hackers burning CDs. Okay, sure. And what's this about permits and liability insurance?

Nah, was only about 30-40 people there. The BBS had about 3,000 regulars who got to see the "second show" of people laughing about the bad band, and the band members being all butthurt.
For certain, we had enough muscle to kick the whole group out into the snow with just 2-3 people doing most of the ejecting. But at this point nobody knew if some actual person from the core group was responsible for sending them over. In which case, nobody wants to kick the shit out of a friend's cousin and their crappy band. Real names and online handles kind of added to the muddle and confusion.
In modern times, you'd just group text out, or do a facebook post asking who the fuck sent these people? Back then, in the dialup era, you had to either dial into the BBS, telnet somewhere if you had say a permanent network connection on campus, or just start dialing up random people and asking if they know the guy, who knows these guys. Plus it was the 90s, anybody who could throw together a shitty Heavens Gate level web page could clear $3k over a long weekend, and many of us at the party did on a few occasions. And promptly blew it all again on expensive tech. ;) So, $40 was pretty much nothing. Until things went to shit in 2001-2003, then $40 was enough to scrape by for a week.
3000 people? That’s a monster party.
lol! No, that size of a party would get the cops called before even a hundred got there. 3000 people was the unique visitors in a week for the BBS. It was 3 dialup lines, plus fidonet style echos to affiliated boards. Also the telnet BBS, which seemed to be in a constant state of working, not working, back up the last working image, and fix the software.
