New Rules, Clarifications, and Other Stuff
Banned Map Types
-
No maps that are basically just population maps.
-
No "places I have been" maps. This rule has been in place for a while, but wasn't explicitly said. Example
Rules Clarifications
-
Submitted maps must have a title. If your map does not have a (somewhat) descriptive title, it will be removed and you will be asked to resubmit it.
-
Maps with text must have legible text. This is obviously subjective, since not all text is important. Something that is fine to have a little grainy are minor place names (cities, rivers, etc) and minor explanatory text. Things that should be legible are legends, titles, and other major information. Older maps or maps that are scans will have some extra leeway here, but use your best judgement regardless.
-
Maps should have a decent resolution. This is related to the above rule.
-
Maps should, but are not required to, have a source. If you made the map yourself, put [OC] in the title or say that it's your map in comments. Do not use the OC tag if you're the one who took the picture of the map.
-
Rule 2: "Politically topical maps are allowed but agenda pushing must be avoided". This rule is completely subject to moderator discretion, but something would have to be really bad to get removed this way.
Other Stuff
-
Please report comments and posts that are spam, racist, sexist, homophobic, or is otherwise bad. This is an inclusionary subreddit.
-
If something is removed there will probably be a comment beneath it saying why it was removed. If not, it was probably spam.
-
The "No Source" flair is put on posts that are using objective data in some way but do not say either in the map or in the comments where they got the data. If someone (preferably the poster) provides a source, then the flair will the removed.
These new rules are not retroactive, so anything already posted will not be removed.
If you have any feedback on these changes, please let us know.
