Need some help installing

I decided to try and upgrade from high sierra to (unsupported via dosdude) mojave on my white 2010 MB. I formatted to apfs, the modded mojave appeared to start booting, then went to grey screen with the circl/line symbol.

I assumed it was just broken, apparently there's a bug where you can't reinstall HS from the recovery partition to APFS, I grabbed a fresh dmg of HS and went to reinstall.

For some reason now, every dmg I try to install OSX with is giving me the same grey screen error.

EDIT: maybe it's how I'm writing the dmg to USB? using a program called transmac. I've tried high sierra, sierra, and el capitan, what did I fuck up, and can I fix it?

How are you trying to install? From MacOS? I am 100% sure you can't do that with the patcher.

You have to make a USB stick with it, let it do it's thing and then boot from USB again to apply patches for your specific instance with the Post-Install thing.

Sometimes it detects your model correctly, and lets you choose from a drop down list, too.

After that second step, let it do it's thing and you should see the EFI shim running (bunch of code running up the screen) and you should be good to go.

I gave up on the patched version, I was installing from a fresh boot. I'm just panicking because even a normal dmg isn't working.

Do a network install. One of the options is to install the latest supported release for your system

update: same issue, on a 2010 only Lion is available, but the laest release (supported) is HS.

I'd be fine with that, but I get resource unavailable right after I sign in with my apple ID, same issue as when I bought it.

clear the nvram before usb install, also since mojave is not supported you may want to try it in a virtual machine, but will require more ram and an ssd for decent performance ... the hw is too old for the new versions of resource intensive apps, so don't expect smooth workflows with these
