Non-witch with questions about views on crystals.

Although I am very interested in witchcraft and I am friends with witches, I do not at this time practice. Even though I have since shed the strict religious tenets that I grew up with, I always been hesitant to practice due to the residual religious guilt. I am not sure if you accept posts from those who don't identify as a witch, so please let me know if my presence on this sub is not welcome.

I have done research online about crystals, but I would like to hear some stuff from real witches about how they view them. A lot of what I see on the internet is being populated by what I perceive as phony or "plastic" witches that are simply in it for the aesthetic and I find it discouraging and potentially unreliable. I will apologize in advance if my questions are dumb.

Do you feel that crystals have literal powers, or are the powers something that they are given? Can crystals "find" a person and can a witch bless or curse crystals and give them to someone?

I had a very unusual series of events accompany a crystal that seemed to appear to me out of nowhere and I am not sure what to make of it. I have always been a very rational and science-minded person so I tell myself that the experience I had is all a coincidence, but I still wonder.
