We were sitting in the veranda with some company when we noticed this huge bastard taking a stroll on the roof over our heads. I put it in a basket and tried to chuck it over to the neighbor's yard, but it was too cool to be chucked.
It casually walked over the edge of the basket and dropped itself out of it and into the neighbor's backyard. I swear I heard it make some eeek-eeeek noises while I was shaking the basket, at which point I took the hint, stopped shaking (the basket) and let it casually walk out of it. It was quite over 5cm in length minus the antennae, believe me when I tell you some pants were soiled tonight.
My wife called it a cockroach, but judging from the fact that it didn't start skittling around when I dropped it in the basket I'm guessing it's some type of beetle instead? I need a drink
edit: well, I can tell you one more detail about this thing, it can fly. It just flew back over our heads, apparently it likes the lights
edit2: for posterity's sake, I think it's a monochamus scutellatus, a type of wood boring beetle
