You fail to understand
my paranoia –
or don't want to
for it might implicate you
in its proceedings;
don't call me wrong.

The truth is trust
is a luxury I've never
been able to afford;
that they'll show up
that they care
that I matter.

They've all been lies
or turned into lies
or I made them lies by
disappearing;
is it a lie if truth
is always fleeting anyway?

And I
Am
FURIOUS
because not a one of you
has ever made me feel
like in any genuine sense
you wanted me to be real.
(Maybe I just didn't want to be.)

So don't you fucking judge me
for applying what I've learned
and don't fucking dismiss me
for defending what I've earned;

I knew I didn't matter
the second you looked away
so don't you dare make me believe
that you ever planned to stay.

I'll fucking fight u.

Oh, wow. I really felt this poem. I think it’s really hard for people who have always had great relationships to understand someone who literally has never had someone they felt they could trust. It really does lead to a survivalist mentality. I felt the justified anger at the “And I am FURIOUS” line and just all around the poem made me appreciate a person who just feels hurt that it can’t be understood that they need extra help and patience when it comes to trust.

Thank you for sharing!

I loved your first stanza- the idea that someone purposefully doesn't understand the situation in order to escape the repercussions is very clever, and the way you phrase it really sticks in the mind; it left an impression on me.

I usually think rhyming is cheesy, but it really emphasizes your point in the last two stanzas. The last stanza particularly stuck out to me- it was my favorite of the whole poem. "I knew it didn't matter the second you looked away" SO GOOD.

I think the closing line kinda takes away from the seriousness of the poem- did you intend for it to be funny?
