Question about sending computer signal to TV wirelessly.

Hey r/technology. I am going to buy a new tv and will most likely be sending movies etc to the tv from my computer. My question is, do you think wireless will give the same quality as actually running a cable from the computer to the tv? Thanks!

You mean using a Transceiver or something?

I didn't know they made those until I googled it. All of the models I can find though are VGA, which is pretty low quality. If you're planning to play video on an HDTV, I can tell you now that it's going to look like shit. The ones capable of transmitting in HD cost thousands of dollars and right now are pretty much just for film enthusiasts. If you want to output in HD, it'd be much, MUCH cheaper to just park your PC next to your TV and buy an extra-long HDMI cable online.

Do you want to stream movies or play downloaded movies/ripped DVD's? For either, you can try using something like this media player

Look at Boxee. They have a device coming out, but not till Novemberish. You can install it on an older computer that you could hook to your Hdtv and stream stuff from a server or the internets.
