Mesh coils? I've been out of the game for a while..
I quit vaping/nicotine about 3 years ago, but have been smoking recently. Looking to buy new gear to get back to not smoking and am looking at the Aegis Mini. It uses Mesh coils, which are new to me.
My last vape was an Endura T-22, if that gives you an idea of my knowledge.
How long do they last? Are they any good? The Mini looks like it uses V2 coils. Can I use V1? Fill me in on this new tech.
Also, what the hell are salts? do they work with these coils? WTF is a pod?
If you can suggest anything else I'm listening.

Mesh coils are the standard now, as they provide superb flavor and longer coil life. If you are looking at Aegis mods I might consider the Solo instead of the Mini, so you can use removable batteries.
The coils for the Cerberus tank, which typically comes with the Mini/Solo, can last quite a long time. I use the V1, which is a single mesh coil, and with moderately clear juices I've had them last over a month. Typical expectation is probably 2-3 weeks, but with the right juices you can get a bit more. V2 coils are dual mesh, meaning there are two smaller mesh coils inside the housing instead of one larger one. Some coils can go up to quad or higher. Single coils tend to provide better airflow while multiple coils provide denser vapor and more flavor. Personally I find the flavor off single coils just fine though.
Nicotine salts are a different formulation of nicotine that allows for a higher concentration without the same harshness as normal juice (freebase). Salt nic is designed specifically for pod systems, which use much less juice to deliver the same amount of nicotine. It is generally unwise to use salt nic in a normal sub-ohm tank, as the nicotine delivery is way too high.
Lastly, pod systems are smaller devices with tight draws that are meant to more closely mimic the experience of smoking. They have internal batteries, disposable coils, and use salt nic juices. The flavor is not as rich as that from a normal mod, but many users coming off cigarettes find the experience much more familiar. If that sounds like something you might be interested in, I would check out the Uwell Calliburn, one of the most popular pod devices on the market.
Thanks - you answered everything as much as I needed. I have a few older batteries sitting around from back in the day that I can use, so I'll go with the Solo.
What happened to 12mg juice? I can't find it anymore. Bombies Nana Cream was the bomb back in the day, but they only have it in 6mg. You dang kids need to get off my lawn!
The market for 12mg was just too low, I'd imagine. On average, people that smoke a pack a day usually find 6mg sufficient (according to studies) or even 3mg in a lot of cases. Perhaps the sales on 12mg were just too low?
Here's a tip for you though, and this has been my experience with mesh coils. I would suggest using dual or triple mesh coils over standard mesh coils. Obviously, this means instead of having one single coil wrapped in cotton... you have two or three (or even 4) coils all in one unit. The flavor is so much better, and the cotton taste is non existent. When I first purchased my first mesh coil setup (it was a Aero tank) I found that the mesh coils were so dry tasting, and very cottony no matter how long I tried to break them in. I used the other coil that came with my tank at the time (a quad coil) and MAN, what a difference. I then purchased a falcon tank, and while it wasn't as bad, the single mesh coil still seemed to burn out quicker and didn't taste as good. However, the triple mesh coil that the falcon came with lasted almost a month, and again, tasted better.
I can't say if this is factual, but that's what I've personally found to be the case. I'm sure someone will chime in and tell me I'm wrong, because I never could figure out why the single mesh coils tasted so bad, but I know I've never had the issue with the others, and they taste so good.
EDIT - I see the user above already kinda explained dual/triple mesh coils etc. Sorry my post is a bit redundant.
I agree about dual mesh coils. I also have a Falcon King tank and the triple mesh coils (while a little more expensive) are worth it. The flavor difference is huge and mine seemed to last longer too.
Valyrian 2 has Quad coil option, but it isnt mesh. Seems like Triple mesh is the current "limit" I've seen.
Thanks. One more question - do mesh coils care about PG/VG content? Some old-school coils didn't work well with high VG
I don't know if there's much of a difference as far as high VG goes in mesh. I've always vaped max VG (80/20) One Hit Wonder juices, and I've never had a problem with it in the mesh coils. The thing that gunks up coils more than anything is juices with sweetener in it, or at least that's what I've found to be true.
Lol I'm not sure why but almost everything is sold in 0, 3, or 6mg now. You can buy Sapphyre nic shots for pretty cheap online though, great for bumping up the nic level of your favorite juice. Some shops carry them also, I just had to call around to find one in my area.
8vape has those nic shots. Literally just purchased a couple of them because I goofed and bought a bunch of 0nic juice. Hazard of late night juice ordering I guess.
As the market moved towards sub-ohm tanks 12 mg e-liquid became to harsh to use, you don´t want to use 12 mg on a .2 ohm coil, pod systems are intended to imitate the experience of a cigarette when used with nicotine salts with high nicotine, you can use nicotine salts in a sub-ohm tank just not the ones that are intended for pods, there are places that sell e-liquid with customizable nicotine levels, I use 4 mg nic salt on my blitzen or fatality m25 and 18 mg with my ares mtl tank, if you're planning on using the tank that comes with the aegis solo don't put in it more than 6 mg e-liquid
I know what you mean...it's pathetic now. I have my own 22mg blend made for me. i don't think you'll find much out there commercially made over 3mg.
It limits your choices because if you like a flavor and it's not available in your preferred nicotine dosage it's not really worth buying, in Mexico there's only one brand that offers customizable nicotine levels in freebase or nic salts, it's my favorite since they have a big selection of flavors to choose from and the owner is a doctor, I know that in the U.S there are places that offer that but I don't know how easy is to get your hands on those liquids, hopefully more brands start to offer those options so everyone can enjoy their favorite flavors in the way they want
316SS alien coils last me 4 weeks (dual coil setup).
Mesh coils will be the biggest improvement. They are amazing and once you go mesh.. I'm sure you an infer the rest.
