Washing my blanket...ooops...

Discussion

So, I made a King size blanket in granny stitch, and I decided it was time to wash it. Since is acrylic, I put it in the washing machine in the delicate cycle....when it started, the machine was grinding!, thank goodness I heard it... I stopped it immediately and tried to rearrange the blanket and figure the problem out, so I noticed that it was super mega ultra heavy! I put it out, struggling with the weight and put it on a big table in my yard...I had to rinse the detergent with a hose! Hahahaha..... I least I saved the machine...

Do you have any tips to wash big blankets??? Did this happen only to me???

I apologize for my english, it is not my first language.

I use the big washer at the laundromat when I have bigger items. I think they’re called 30 or 40 pound washers, they can handle the weight.

Well, I estimated around 50 pounds\22 kilos, because it was as heavy as a travel suit....😓

I’m pretty sure that the weights are “dry weights.” Like they can wash 30/40 pounds of clothes and handle the weight of that much wet.

If something doesnt fit in my washing machine comfortably, I'll either use woolite and wash it in my bathtub, or take it to a professional cleaners.

Well, it fit, it just got very heavy....maybe a professional cleaner, if I do it in my bath tub, my back would hurt probably....thank you for the advice!

I've seen on here that people will put it in their bath tub and use their feet to wash it! Agitate it by stomping on the blanket.

Oooh...I never thought of that....that's a good idea!

If it cant agitate it well, and is too heavy to handle then it's likely best to take it to the cleaners. I have a few quilts and such I do that with.

Unless you end up with a larger capacity washer at some point.... then maybe it can handle the weight better.
