Fire HD 7th Gen or Wait

Discussion

Two questions:

  1. Wondering if anyone could share their experience with the 7th generation Fire tablets and GG.
  2. Will GG stop supporting the older Fire OS versions in the future? (On Amazon, the latest OS listed for 7th gen Fire HD 8 is 5.6.4.0, so I assume they won't go much higher beyond that.)

Q1 because I've noticed that I can find 7th gen Fire tablets at a much cheaper price than 8 (something worth considering for someone who has no real use for tablets beyond GG), and Q2 because, seeing as SC still has a ways to go, investing in a good GG setup may seem more prudent in the future rather than now.

I have 2 hd8 7th gen, its a little small i think gameglass is optimised for 10" tablets.

Are 8th gen already out ? - If i look at the FireHD10 they are still listed as 7.Generation(2017) - but maybe i did miss something. But yes i did have the same "problem" as you - is it worth to buy one just for GG ? In the end I found a good warehouse deal (slightly used) with 64Gb for ~100bucks - a "new" 64bit would cost ~190 at my location.

You know, now that I look closer, support for 7th gen will be around for a while, especially bc GG is optimising for the Fire HD 10. But the latest Fire HD 8 is 8th gen with a higher version number for the OS.

I'm really only considering the 16Gb 8, since I'd only really need it for GG and it's quite a bit cheaper.

I’m thinking of getting a FireHD 10” purely for Gameglass, anyone using this tablet & have any views. I understand it wouldn’t be as good as using an iPad, but not sure why.

So, as far as GG working better on a FireHD vs an iPad, their FAQ states that they're specifically optimising for the former. I don't have any experience with using either, though, so I can't rightly say. Check out their discord, you'll probably get a faster answer there (link is in this sub's sidebar).
