Borrow your spare AM4 processor?

Hi Portland. I'm looking for someone downtown or on the east side who could give me an few minutes with an older AM4 processor. I need to update the BIOS on a B450 board for a Ryzen 3600.

If you know what all of that meant, I may be looking for you!

I can throw a few bucks or beers your way. Also happy to be referred to a repair shop that would do it. I just want to get my new system running without waiting for a kit from AMD.

Thanks!

Go into Free Geek and plead your case. I don’t know if they would be willing, but there is a good chance they have a few of those lying around somewhere in the building.

Free Geek usually has older stuff.

Free Geek gets a lot of stuff.

Yep, lots of older stuff.

Which is donated. Few people or companies donate brand new stuff, they're still getting am2s.

AM4

And they've been around for a few years now, so why is this a dumb suggestion?

Have you thought about abusing frys return policy?

had this issue when i was putting together a 2700X and X370

i called around and fry's was the cheapest option for a bit under $20, ended up applying for a bootkit from AMD, took 6 days to get shipped to me

Fry's also gives your computer a free dust cleanout.

Well. You could borrow the one in my kid's computer, but I'm pretty sure I'd get ~murdered for that. How long does it take for them to send you a UEFI upgrade kit??

Seems like it's around a week. I think I'll be stopping by Fry's on Saturday to have them do it. Thanks for replying!

A week is too long! Totally worth a drive down to Fry's.

Man I would love to help you, I had this problem a month ago. I used AMDs rma program for loaner CPU. You might want to try that it will cost you both but might be a week before you get it.

Didn’t have luck with any repair shops, they all want $$.

I'm confused on why you want too barrow one, if you don't have a CPU to use later what's the point of updating the BIOS? It's just a brick without a CPU.

I do have a CPU but the motherboard needs a BIOS update to support it.
