I discovered this subreddit a week ago, and I am fascinated. Please keep posting and sharing!

What a description! Here is Mictlantecuhtli's appearence from Wikipedia:

Mictlantecuhtli was 6 feet tall and was depicted as a blood-spattered skeleton or a person wearing a toothy skull. Although his head was typically a skull, his eye sockets did contain eyeballs. His headdress was shown decorated with owl feathers and paper banners and he wore a necklace of human eyeballs while his earspools were made from human bones.

What’s the story of the picture?

I was browsing through Tumblr's "Aztec" hashtag and found the image. Thought it was cool and wanted to share.

I thought I had seen it before. Now that I see it again, it is pretty haunting. Do they give any description of it do you recall?

No description, only an image post. Side note: There is a haunting rendering of Xipe Tótec by artist Andres Rios on the same hashtag. Kind of made me jump. I read the Wiki description, and it makes sense -- i.e., flaying of the skin!
