Don't mind me, I'm just another x230 with an x220 keyboard and IPS panel

Bought this i7 x230 refurbished a few months ago. Wanted to see if I'd actually use it before I went all in on upgrades. Turns out I use it quite a bit, and the fresh keyboard and panel take it to a whole new level. Thanks to everyone in the sub for providing resources and inspiration. I use Clear Linux btw

I wish these keyboard could be installed on a T440p. They are very nice keyboards. I hate chiclet style keyboards.

Buy a t430 and do the classic keyboard swap. Very affordable these days.

Yeah! That's a good idea. The T430 also has my beloved lid-latch!
Looks like I'm gonna have a collection of modded thinkpads in a couple years! XD

T430 is a wonderful mod hobby machine. The quad core is just slightly behind the t440p. However the express card slot enables you to have a egpu for heavy games and other graphics intense work. Buy a t430 without the Nvidia option. Honestly, build quality of the t430 is better than the t440p. Enjoy the mod process! I'm about to do a motherboard replacement on my T430

I didn't know how moddable the t430 is until like an hour ago when I read this article: https://medium.com/@n4ru/the-definitive-t430-modding-guide-3dff3f6a8e2e
Most definitely getting one! This looks like a lot of fun. Could make for a great linux dev machine.
I also didn't know that it had better build quality! That's a plus.
Seems like there are some additional fun mods over here: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/995484-iamdarkyoshis-lenovo-t430-modding-log/
Well, I guess this will be my biggest modding project ever. I've done some modding before, but I've never done anything on this scale. You have no idea how excited I am to get my hands dirty with this project.

Are you replacing it with another stock motherboard, or something custom (if that even exists)?

What do you think is a good price for a T430? I think under a $100 is probably good...

8 space tabs?!

The Go language uses hard tabs, why not render them in all their glory?

Great looking rig man. If you don’t mind me asking, what IDE are you using there?

Thanks! It's just VSCode

Which screen did you go with?

This is the one I ordered: https://www.ebay.com/itm/173766759040

The colors are okay, but the brightness and viewing angles are great. Whole new world compared to the stock screen, for sure.

Thanks a lot. Brightness is what I care most about. I've got more modern laptops when I need a good screen, but I carry the x230 the most.

Same for me, I wanted this as a casual coffee shop machine, the upgrades really make it a joy to use anywhere, though
