Did you find any holes in the steam? Maybe lower down.

Look up “hemp beetle parasite”

Perhaps thats it. Good luck!

Looks like some kind of borer. Hemp borer, corn borer, or a some kind of beetle larvae. Btk works against corn and hemp borers, not sure what to do about beetle borers. Clean off the poo and look for a hole under it.

Here's a good writeup on how to deal with corn borers, it would work for hemp borers too.

You can carefully cut the stem open to find the worm, kill it, clean out the stem and tape it back up. I use Safer's BTK for corn borers and it works great. Get it out before it destroys the inside of the stem. Spray it at the first sign of damage and once a week after that. You can inject the stems with it too but I've never done that I just cut them out and treat the whole plant to prevent more.

Thanks for that article, I think that’s it. This plant looked healthy until this happened. I have another one that has some bud rot and probably the same problem.

Most likely the rot is caused by the worms. They bore into the stems and climb to the top and eat their way through the inside of the cola, literally making it fall off or topple over and rot, or destroying the stem enough that the whole branch dies. Borers are the worst, they get me every year, but this year I finally got them.

I noticed that several colas had fallen over and then I saw this.

It’s happened on 50% of the plant. This plant is likely doomed and would like to know for next year.
