Roy and Hershel after Lander

Im currently on book 4 on my second reading of the series and something that keeps coming back to me/bothing me is the logistics of Roy/Hershels life post Lander.

So in the future Hershel and Mary are now married and expecting a baby but at the same time Roy is kicking butt and being a hero, im assuming Hershel just gets anytime that Roy isnt being a hero but does that mean Roy doesnt get any socialising time or free time while not heroing. Which in and of itself must also be like a big chunk of the day and must completely suck for Mary especially if theyre having a baby and needs heshels help caring for it.

Does that also mean Mary is just alone half the time if Roy decides to date anyone (hopfully hexcellent) or have any kind of life himself. Would Roy and Heshel then get two apartments beside each other to save time/have their own space or is Roy just expected to be ALONE for the rest of his life because imagine how awkward that would be if Roy was dating and took the person back to Hershel/Mary/Roys apartment.

Thats about it I'll think of more things as I get closer to the end of the book.

The time split aspect isn’t answered, that would be somewhat of a hurdle for both of their relationships. Mary does mention in an earlier book that she accepts that aspect of Hershel tho

That would suck so much though especially with a family.

Roy can always go to the girl's place instead, like he did in college. That would still work even for serious dating rather than just casual hook-ups.

What I can't help but think about: Assuming Mary's dream walking still lets the people involved actually get a good night's sleep, then Roy/Hershel splitting their time won't lose them as much time as you might expect. If you remember the part of book 3 where everyone goes into Nick's head and BOTH Roy and Hershel are there? That very likely means both Roy and Hershel will be in the dream world too.

So the brothers could actually hang out and talk together, while being able to do anything they can imagine (and I mean that in a "go flying superman style" or "hang out on the Eiffel Tower" way, not in any creepy way). And Roy could even go off on his own to give the married couple some alone time when they wanted.

But in Jill's dream Mary had wondered, but decide not to find out yet, what would happen if she wandered off into the fuzzier parts at the edges of the dream, so there may be a limit on how far off Roy could wander if he wanted to give Hershel and Mary some alone time. And even in the dream world, being alone would probably get boring after a while.

Now if Roy ends up getting married, what happens then? The most logical thing to do (if things work like I'm assuming) would be for them all to fall asleep together so that they can all get this extra time, then they can all choose to hang out together or separate to spend time with their spouses. But while that would be a good logical option, most people would find falling asleep with your SIL and BIL weird.

Or maybe Mary could embrace the weirdness and just throw giant slumber parties with all their friends so that everyone could get extra time.

(TL;DR: Dreamworld shenanigans?)

I kind of wish Hershel and Roy had hung out in the dreamworld together and talked to each other that wouldve been great to see them ineract together.

More importantly: Roy's reaction the first time Mary and Hershal knock boots if they fall asleep together afterwards.

I like to think he'd at least try to be respectful and not bring it up, but fail spectacularly. He's not the best at discretion.

I'm thinking something along the lines of: "HA! I FINALLY beat you Chad!!! Wait wha... Hershal? Mary? Are you practicing for some kind of dream therapy thing?"

Mary: blush

Hershal: blush

Roy: "MY MAN! FINALLY! 'Bout damn time someone else in this body was getting some action!"

This is answered at the end of the book

It's never really stated how much their minds starting merging but I like to think that by their hero days, both minds are constantly active regardless of current form.

It's not directly addressed, but Mary and Hershel's relationship is very much like that of polyamory. Hershel and Roy are two different people, but are in the same body, so you have to share your time with them. It's very much like if your partner has somebody else that they are seeing and you "share" your partner with them. Or you also fall in love with them also and then you have a threeway relationship, but that doesn't always happen. It is a little bit more different in this case though, but I've always viewed it as basic polyamory.

Imagine if thats how their relationship ended up. If they were in a legitimate poly relationship.
