Fellow Brit here.
Currently watching the Wire (only on series 1) but tbh it seems a bit slow so far. That said, Im still enjoying it.

cheers, I am sticking with it.
As a Brit, how is Top Boy seen by the drill gangs?

Cool! I can deal with the plot holes and gloss over them because I love the show. But would be good to know how's it's received by people in East London
Which plot holes? Not saying there aren't any, just none that I found overly egregious
I watched the new Top Boy on Netflix. Didn't know there was anything else. It was OK. Felt it was a bit try hard in many aspects.
Just finished watching the first two seasons Top Boy: Summerhouse and this show is amazing. Very short as the first two seasons combined are only 8 episodes (4 each season).
Anyone who loved the wire this is a MUST WATCH.
It's very good with a definitely "Wire" feel. As my wife pointed out, it would be nearly un-watchable for Americans without subtitles (which I use all the time anyway) with the accents and patois. I'm going through Season 1 now, and it's my favorite current show.
Ha! This is quite funny as a Brit, because my housemates had to watch The Wire with subtitles!
I turned the subtitles off and found it generally easy to follow but i guess I must listen to too much of that UK grime
I watched the first episode the other day and def get some Wire vibes. Just to see the urban side of London is a nice change .
Love Top Boy, but I'm also big into the UK grime scene and UK culture in general. Obviously not The Wire but a damn good show innit.
Been subbed for years bro, not sure if it's a good or bad sign that I know your username. Big up the grime community
Alright bruv?
Not seen the new season yet, but absolutely loved the first season, and it also introduced me to Ghostpoet. The second season was very unrealistic in some regards especially in terms of the police interrogation scenes, but Kano's character became my favourite.
There's a lot of plot holes, but otherwise it's very good.
Which season? Season 3 (the new season 1) has a few pieces that don't add up if you get into it. But I am more than happy to overlook it.
Yeah the new one. Would discuss it but it's MAJOR spoilers XD
Man I literally just finished the last 20 mins of the last ep. The last 2 scenes were gimmicky af
First series on the BBC was class albeit with a super obvious ending coming but the second series went off a cliff into Kidulthood territory. It's the second series where he sleeps with his solicitor right? I remember the scene where he's demanding to speak to his solicitor and it's like someone took any generic interrogation room scene from any American show of any vintage and then just did a find and replace on the word "lawyer" for "solicitor" and then went "bang, British".
I’ve watched the first 2 series - very good. I seem to recall it got cancelled for some strange reason, and they started making the 3rd years later. Didn’t realise 3 was out.
Start with the original season 1. Be warned though that it's fucking addictive and a short season . It can also hit you right in the feels. Season 2 is superb and also a short season. The new season on Netflix is a full ten episodes and it will grip you. It's raw and gritty and all fans of The Wire should give it a shot.
I hadn't heard of this series before the new Netflix season, so I started watching that. I was a bit confused about what was going on, but also impressed about how immersive the universe was, as well as how they only used vague suggestions to explain the background of the characters.
Only after the 3rd (iirc) episode did I realise that there was two earlier seasons, but Netflix had placed them under a different title, and that is why they didn't bother explaining a lot of background in that season. So naturally I had to go back and watch those. Unfortunately I had already witnessed the fate of one the characters at that time.
But yeah, apart from my misunderstanding, it is very good. A mixture between the Italian series Gomorrah with a bit of The Wire thrown in when it comes to not only following the criminal characters.
It seems much more interested in depicting the entire society around those building blocks, and how a lot from each new generation of youngster growing up there are pushed into crime, than Gomorrah does for example, which turns way too much into gangster fetishism for my taste.
Ooft Gomorrah... Fuck what a brilliant series. The music, the characters.
I am just about to finish The Wire for the second time. Will move onto this after your recommendation (:
Watch the corner after the wire and then read David Simons book homicide, then try generation kill then watch the wire again then check out mind hunters
Read The Corner as well, I recommend before watching the miniseries.
Haha what a list of recommendations!
The corner next
Is The Corner available on streaming?
