PSA: Quest items are shared in party. Stop soloing!

Discussion

Many time players reject party because they think that quest loot is dropping only to one player.
That's not true. Sometime all five players could get quest loot from same body. Right after "main" player get all the loot - quest loot may appear for everybody else.

You could see it in dungeon quests: Body isn't "shining" for you until someone get his loot, but then it will start sparkling with your quest item. So just doublecheck bodies after other players take their loot.

This is false.

Lets say there is a quest to loot crocolisk teeth. If 2 players are on a quest, and they kill a crocolisk, the one of them will get to loot the tooth per mob. So if you need 10 teeth, and they are 100% drop rate, you will ALWAYS need to kill 20 crocolisks for both players to get enough teeth.

However lets say there are 3 players in party, only 2 of which have the quest. Then they will each loot their own tooth, and third one will have no loot - until the third person loots it. After that, it will become lootable to other 2 players, and whoever loots it first will be able to get a tooth (that the player not on quest was unable to see or loot). They will still require 20 crocolisks total (10 per player with quest).

If you're doing a collect multiple items quest from mobs it doesn't share loot. If you're killing a named npc for a quest the item is shared.

Some items are guaranteed drops for all - i.e. "kill X and loot his head".

Other items arent - i.e. deviate hides.

Usually if you need to collect more than 1 of something, it wont be shared, but if its just 1 item or very rare, then its shared. But exceptions exist everywhere.

Loot drops are based on the quest. Some drops will drop for everyone, others for only the current looter. If current looter doesn't have the quest or complted the quest then after they loot it's a free for all for others.

Sorry but this is wrong, except for items like a head or paw of a named mob items are solo drop, like collect 15 red belts from -blank- will all be solo drops.

You’re confusing collection quests with bounty quests. Collection quests will only drop for one party member unless they loot the enemy and don’t pick the item up, or loot the enemy but don’t have the quest while you do.

Bounty quests usually involve “go kill this named mob and bring back his head/tail/tooth/penis”. In those cases, everyone will be able to loot the quest item.

There are VERY few collection items that were accidentally marked as bounty items, the only one coming to mind being for Flute of Xavaric in felwood, where you have to collect 5 felbind samples, but each drop can be picked up by each party member. E’kos also will drop for every party member. Past that, no, grouping up doesn’t get everyone their quest items faster.

Worst PSA ever........

Never seen a dual loot from deviate hides in WC. Loot skull from X mob quests are shared. Collect 0/10 titanium balls quests are not as I notice.

Boss Enemy quest drops are shared yes, but regular enemy quest items are not.. and like you explained if 1 person in the group has collected all theirs, after they loot their designated corpse, 1 other person on the quest has a chance to pick up a quest loot from it.(if it dropped)

Please double check that what you are saying is correct before you spread misinformation.

  • Player A and player B are doing a collectors quest
  • Player A is at 16/20, Player B is at 11/20
  • Its player A his turn to loot, he loots his final one
  • Player A is now 20/20, player B is 17/20
  • It is players A turn to loot, he loots gray item
  • Player B can now loot the same corpse player A just looted. There is another quest item

If a player who is done with the quest and done emptying his body, other party members can now check if there was a quest item in it. Player A can not see if its there during looting.

Player A can skin the body whit a quest item inside, player A should wait untill being told by player B that there is no quest item.

Player A was done with the quest, after he empties the body not only player B but also player C and D can loot the body, first one looting gets the item.

It doesnt even matter if it does or not. Within a grp you get an xp bonus. 2 mobs killed from 2 people will give around 1.3 times the xp you'd get from one mob solo.

This only works if EVERYONE in their group loots or at minimum 'checks' their bodies for loot. This become an issue when groups spread out and bodies dont get looted. I personally try to switch it to Free for All if this is the case.

Pretty sure it’s only the one stack of the item so the first player to loot after gets everything (assuming the original looter didn’t need the quest drop)

The single items such as Helcular's Rod are shared yes, but anything the requires multiple loots is not shared. You could make the argument that alternating in a party of two is better than just spawning a mob in the middle of two people and having a mad dash for it, but some people use the "Loot 12 pairs of pants" quests to get in some grinding as well, it might not be about greed or being a dick.

Additionally, your comment about the body not shining until after someone gets loot, only occurs when there is a quest item from that mob that you have the quest for and they do not.

“You could see it in dungeon quests: Body isn't "shining" for you until someone get his loot, but then it will start sparkling with your quest item. So just doublecheck bodies after other players take their loot.”

This happens when the person who has the loot is not on the same quest as you. You can see them loot the corpse and notice in chat log that they do not receive quest item. Then the loot becomes open to everyone who is on the quest.

Unless it’s a kill credit quest or an item like head of a named mob, it’s generally not shared.

phbickle•

Only some are. Generally if it's a single time from something with a unique name it will be shared but many drops needed from generic mobs are not.

That said, it's still better to group up, you just clear way faster as well as working as a group lets you better avoid being tanked by the opposite faction.

Unless you’re say, lvl 50 and killing lvl 49 mobs for rare quest drops and a lvl 43 wants to grp up (rolls eyes)

There’s a difference between being helpful and just being taken advantage of.

My wife and I have been leveling together from 1-36 and I'm 100% sure this isn't correct. Every single quest we have done a mob does not share quest items until 1 player loots the last item.

Once one player has "completed 10/10 items" for instance, the quest items will continue dropping for that player but will only be lootable by the person who hasn't finished yet when the person who has finished loots on their turn.

So because of this observation, if I'm at 9/10 and my leveling buddy is at 5/10 I'm not going to group up and give them the chance of looting quest items when I could just keep killing and have my leveling buddy finish much faster.

Tl;dr quest drops have a chance for each players turn during group loot only and do not share, once player 1 has finished player 2 may loot player 1's quest drops

Pretty sure this is wrong. I've been grouping for a while now and this has never happened.
