This was one of the best Athletic articles I've read from Wheeler, or anyone really. It really opened my eyes to the challenges of a lot of European prospects struggling to adapt to life in Canada (a few other Leafs prospects come to mind). It's easy to forget that we're talking about 17 and 18 year olds that are getting dropped off in another continent speaking a new language, far separated from their entire lives and support systems.
Also, even though Sapego is as long a shot as any AHL contract, it is interesting to note how little information anyone had on him until relatively recently, and how much of his struggles in 18/19 might be attributable to adjustments to North America, switching teams and positions, fitness and nutrition, whereas he looked great more recently in his overage year. I'll certainly be keeping tabs on him and wishing him the best.
