Freedom Mobile Horrible - Downtown Ottawa

Usually I find Freedoms Service decent (not good). But this afternoon, downtown it is horrible beyond words (possibly this weather?). Still says LTE at the top but take 1-3 mins to load google. People come here asking about freedom every so often. Its like 95% decent but the 5% is pulling teeth.

It almost never works downtown. Specially if you are around Rideau Centre.

switch to fizz - it's price comparable with freedom.

i made the jump last year and can't imagine moving back to freedom. 95-5 is about right - freedom works well most of the time. oocasionally its unbearable.

I second this. Been with Fizz since the Beta, and in spite of some growing pains very early on, it's been all around better than Freedome - at a comparable price and still without being under the umbrella of The Big Three

do they have stores I should go to or do you just do everything online?

if you have a problem..you're fucked is basically it...they give you good discounts cause they hire no humans

Everything online. They cut down on costs by not having store, and minimal support, but a solid self-service website. Feel free to use my referral code - we'll each save $25 - RHV1C

what’s their coverage like, better than Freedom’s?

1
onomatopo•

coverage is quebec wide. in Ottawa its pretty much the whole city. outside of their coverage you roam free on rogers/bell/telus.

so outside of Fizz’s area you’re on roaming, what does that change exactly? do you have to pay extra for data, texts, call?

1

It changes that you aren't on the fizz network. No extra charges. Uses your regular data etc... fizz and videotron usually require you to be on their network 30% of the time. Or something like that.

If you sign up use code 2J39Q .

Is Fizz like Freedom insofar as it only works for people who have no means and/or intention of ever leaving the city?

1

not at all. fizz has national sharing agreeements. unless you get the quebec only plan you can walk across canada and use rogers, bell, telus seemlessly. They even have great American sharing for a few extra dollars a month

I am downtown and videotron coverage is excellent.

Which is why I steer clear of Freedom.

Freedom is an American word meaning not free

I’m on freedom and find that there’s dead spots all over the city. Where my phone was full service but I can’t load anything

I typically have no issues using Freedom, but I did notice the network was really slow this afternoon.

Despite my phone being set to automatic network selection, it seems it had chosen Videotron. I manually selected Freedom in the network settings and it seems to be fine now. I’m not sure why it defaulted to Videotron when the Freedom signal was stronger.

I just switched to fizz after being with freedom for at least 4+ years. I pay $33 a month, 6gb of data. I just finished my first month and got a 3gb data roll over which was nice. It’s a lot better than freedom however I’m still having trouble setting up my voicemail. It’s in French and I enter my pin and still didn’t work.
