w55 and w56 question

I have been researching on google for a while now and havent been able to answer my question. Im trying to do a 350 swap and was wondering if the bell housing for a w56 would work for a w55 transmission?

I would be more inclined to use a v6 r150f trans as it will be stronger than a w series transmission

It will work. The bellhousing is the same.

Are you going to match the W trans to the 350?

Yea, I had thought about doing a 302 swap but decided the 350 swap would be easier for me.

Well, the W transmission can hold a few more than 200hp. However, you will need to be careful since in a Rocky trail you could blow up things easily.

I'd recommend going with a Toyota R transmission. That's the family used in the mark four supra. And it's well known they can be used with no worries with 500hp.

From BigMike at Marlin Crawler

“but all W55-W59 and G52-G58 bellhousing to front transmission housing bolt patterns are the same  You may bolt a W56 bellhousing directly up to the W58. The clutch forks and pivots are the same as well, however 1981-89 applications (both 2WD and 4WD) used a two-piece release bearing with collar (see collar here) and have a different pivot retention/spring design. “

Now for my two cents

After owning a Yota for 10 years and almost doing the 302 Ford V8 swap “transmission to transfer adapter no longer in circulation, which sucks since I’d already bought the 2000 Ford Explorer to rip the engine/tranny out of”.

I’d be really weary of using a transmission close to the W56.

There are two main reasons I didn’t go with that transmission first is that Toyota didn’t trust the W56 with its turbo 22RE motor which used the RF150, which would still be way less HP then that 350 and second is that while it will technically work, you’d have to granny a V8.

Though if I remember right marlin crawler does have a tranny rebuild kit that would reinforce your transmission. So what ever you do, please take lots of photos and post lots of updates.

Also Northwest off road has pretty much all the V8 adapter parts you are looking for and recommends a 3” body lift... for heat dissipation.

Hope this helps.
