Help with oculus rift S sensor check

Tech Support

Bought a rift S like a week ago been one problem after the next trying to get it working finally on the sensor check portion

I've already done the camera and mic privacy settings so it should allow the oculus camera

Ive read that I need windows media feature pack which version should I get? I'm not sure if I have this or bot already I'm using windows 10

Finally incase this information is needed I'm using a powered usb hub to connect my rift s too since I was getting the "not enough usb resources" before not sure if the usb for the headset needs to be in the 3.0 port of the computer to work. Any clarifications and help would be very much appreciated

Plug your headset directly into a usb 3.0 port on your computer and try to eliminate other things that are plugged in.

Hey, I have a few things I'd like to cover:

  1. The Windows Media Feature Pack should only be necessary if you are using an "N" or "KN" edition of Windows 10, standard Windows 10 editions should be fine.
  2. Oculus does actually recommend a direct connection to a USB 3.0 port or higher, hubs don't generally work correctly or at all in my experience (powered or not), so if you are lacking in USB 3.0 ports we actually recommend getting one of the USB 3.0 PCIe expansion cards in the following article: https://support.oculus.com/204823846627499
  3. To see if we can figure out the source of the issue, connect the Rift S directly to a USB 3.0 port, and then run the log gatherer as per the following article (Second option), and then create a ticket listing all the steps you've tried thus far: https://support.oculus.com/172672339980954

You can create a ticket here, and feel free to respond to this post with your ticket number after creating the ticket: https://support.oculus.com/885981024820727

Thanks for the reply I'll try some of the fixes when I get home probably will need to send a log, I was just going to ask my computer has 2 3.0 ports (6 with the powered hub) I only need 1 but before getting the powered port in as getting the not enough usb controller resources error, not sure if I'll get it now with the hub connected but will I need to get an expansion card thing if I get the error again? I'm not that knowledgable when it comes to this sorta stuff.

It sounds as if your USB 3.0 ports are not compatible, based on the error, but I also suggest:

  1. Opening Device Manager, expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers section, and please right-click on each item in this list, select the "Update Driver Software" option, and follow the on-screen instructions. If unfamiliar, instructions for accessing Device Manager are here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4026149/windows-open-device-manager
  2. Additionally, while in Device Manager please also try the following:
    1. Scroll down to and expand the “Universal Serial Bus controllers” section
    2. Right-click on the first item in this section, select “Properties,” and select the “Power Management” tab (if present).
    3. Uncheck the “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” option and click OK.
    4. Repeat the above process for all items in the “Universal Serial Bus controllers” section.
    5. Do the same for any Oculus devices that show up in Device Manager as well.

Without seeing the logs I can't give a definite answer on whether or not an expansion card is necessary, but it sounds likely.

I've done those steps now, strangely enough i'm not getting the usb error my oculus is connected to a 3.0 port on the computer, sensor check is still not working. i created a ticket Request #873699, i made it before this post cus i wanted to try getting help from the reddit too, hopefully the logs can help sort this problem out.

Oh I've been through the sensor check problem and know exactly how to fix it. It's a problem with the cameras on the anniversary windows 10 update. If you just to to windows 10 camera app, you will see that it won't work and has an error.

Follow the guide on the link below to fix the camera and everything should work perfectly.

Fix

I'm surprised that not alot of people found out about this as I looked all around for a fix and hot nothing until I checked the camera app and noticed that it's not working.
