That kid is amazing.

What's the context of this video? Regardless, that kid is amazing

His brother was shot and killed by the woman he's talking to in his own home. To me, it looked like a terribly unfortunate accident, but we still don't know the motive. The woman was just sentenced to 10 years of jail time.

The woman, a former police officer in Dallas, claimed that she mistakenly entered an apartment room that she thought was her own - but it was actually her neighbor's from upstairs. So when she entered and saw the guy she thought that someone was in her apartment and shot and killed the neighbor (the brother of the kid in the video).

Holy cow. This kid's ability to forgive is really something. Thanks for posting the context

I'm from dallas. So I was exposed to lots of info about this. Lots of the officers prior pins/tweets/text indicate she was/is probably racist. Although I suspect that maybe this experience opened her eyes.

We know exactly what motivated the woman, fear of getting shot by a burglar who broke into her home. Turns out that wasn’t really the situation she thought it was because of being intoxicated and tired but regardless she chose to be tried by twelve rather than carried by six as her training dictated she should.

Funny that her ‘training ‘ didn’t let her know she was on the wrong floor.

Her training also didn’t let her know she was in a completely different apartment.

It only let her know that she should shoot center mass on a man that was unarmed.

The poor victim on the other hand was carried by six for eating cereal in his own apartment.

Yes the brothers forgiveness is inspiring but let’s stop pretending this is anything other than a horrible tragedy and that this lady deserves any benefit of the doubt because of her ‘training’

I think she deserves the benefit of the doubt simply because we don't know what happened.

She wasn’t drunk. She was a police officer and had just gotten off a 14-hour shift. She was distracted as she was walking from her car to apartment because she was exchanging texts with her boyfriend

Intoxicated? Where do you get that? That's not true at all. She'd just come home from work.

The toxicology report.

That's her story. And it's quite possible. It honestly makes the most sense to me. Regardless, the forgiveness exhibited by this young man is inspiring.

It is but I think it’s incredibly horrible that people are trying to use this as an instance to slander cops and drive racial hatred. The other explanations I’ve heard don’t make any sense (I.e. she hated black people and just wanted to kill one, or she just was looking for anyone to kill before meeting up with her date.)

Wow, I wish I could display that much compassion and forgiveness. Inspiring. That kid really loves Christ. You can feel the spirit strong as he speaks.

What a testimony

This story reminds me of a talk General Conference by President James E. Faust, "The Healing Power of Forgiveness." He talks about some fairly extreme circumstances involving forgiveness. This talk changed my life.

For those of you not understanding the context, this happened in Dallas on Wednesday. The blonde woman is Amber Guyger, the Dallas police officer who shot and killed a man after walking into his apartment, thinking it was her own apartment. The victim was relaxing on his couch when she opened his already-cracked-open front door, mistakenly on the wrong floor of the large apartment complex where they both lived. She pulled her gun on him and shot him - thinking he was an intruder. It was only after she shot him that she realized she had made the mistake of opening the wrong apartment door.

She was convicted of murder and sentenced to ten years. This video is the victim's brother addressing and then hugging the convicted woman, after the sentence by the jury was read.

Further, after this video ends, the judge came off her bench and hugged and spoke with the victim's family, then went back to her chambers, retrieved her personal bible and came back into the courtroom. She gave it to the convicted woman, spoke to her face-to-face and told her that above all else, "she needed to forgive herself" and trust in the Lord.

For those interested, here is a 20-minute clip of Dallas's top morning radio show - The Musers on 96.7 FM - discussing all of this, the morning after - a really great listen. The "hug" is discussed beginning at 4:45....
