Nice, what you upgraded from?

DutchroosterOPβ€’

A ktm 250 exc 2 stroke with rekluse clutch, left hand rear brake and lots of tasty aftermarket bits.

Best bike I ever bought! Don't want anything else.

satellittfjesβ€’

I sold mine for a big sportsbike. Then i bought it back and sold the sportsbike.

I've been around the block as well. Converted a few sumo bikes in the late 90's after a youth on dirtbikes. Then got a few pocket rockets. Then back to dirtbikes... but what I loved riding most was sumo. Full circle!

I see you’re from Sydney!

Do you ride with any groups?

2
DutchroosterOPβ€’

Yeah from Sydney but no, I tend to fly solo. But if theres a cool gathering somewhere I wouldn't mind checking it out.

I'm brand new to supermoto. Are those Husky 701s a lot faster than Suzuki DRZ400SMs?

2
dvxatronβ€’

Dude... it's a whole different class... the DRZ is like 320 lbs with 32-40hp and the 701 is 325 lbs with 75+HP. The DRZ is Carb'd while the 701 is EFI. If you can afford it, pick up a stock 2019+ KTM or Husky 701, It'll beat the pants off a mod'd out DRZ any day.

UltraTacoSupremoβ€’

Which one is the most reliable?

1
dvxatronβ€’

that's difficult to say... the DRZ is pretty damn solid. They use the "if it isn't broke, don't fix it" model. It's pretty much the same engine since 2001. It's a tank. But.... the KTM/Husky post 2016 is the same thing. They both use the LC4, which has been a powerhouse for many KTMs for like 10 years. Ask anyone with an Enduro 690. They are bullet proof.

I've seen a few DRZs blown up before while I've never heard of a KTM/Husky SM/enduro being blown up. With that said, I understand that there are a lot more DRZs on the road than the KTM/Husky.

I'd bank on the Husky/KTM any day. When you get on a DRZ, it feels cheap... The KTM/Husky has a lot more modern amenities like TC, ABS, proper digital gauges, way better brakes, hydraulic clutch, and it's not made in China/Japan.

I have 38 000km 530 hours on my 501 only changed piston ring at 33 000km

dvxatronβ€’

This is the route I took.... I picked up a great deal on an enduro 690r and moded it with SM wheels. Still kicks the shit out of any DRZ I have come across.

Nothing wrong with being made in Japan, they know what they're doing and make the most reliable cars and motorcycles and are not the same as China.

they dont have super good lowend these 701. very short stroked engines stall easy,

dvxatronβ€’

I strongly disagree with this.

1
jhonekriβ€’

nothing like big XR's 😎

1
jhonekriβ€’

Well the specs say it has short stroke atleast.

dont get me wrong i LOVE these. just met one on the backwheel when i was on my way home, Did thumbs UP out from the car window to :)

1
satellittfjesβ€’

Well mine got aprox 95 hp after pc5, open airfilter, dynotune, exhaustsystem and rekluse clutch for not slipping/torque. So you go figure 😁 (drz 39hp)

3
DutchroosterOPβ€’

Nice! I have the akro pipe (baffles removed) and airbox mod. Roughly 75hp. Power Commander is next on the list. Then a bit more protection (proper knuckle guards and a belly guard).

Speedy

Cant remember where i left my face

1
DutchroosterOPβ€’

Yeah, different ball game.

Only sumo better than this (IMO) is a converted exc500. But that's a race engine (high maintenance), and want to clock up 30k min on this beast. :)

dvxatronβ€’

Agreed!!!
