Sleep Help

I need help. I sleep way too much. Every day for the past 3 weeks I've been sleeping anywhere between 12 to 18 hours a day (straight). I finally got on the right meds for my depression, but I think they are contributing to my marathon sleep sessions. I usually set up 3 or 4 alarms, but I keep sleeping through them. Please Help. I can't sleep my life away.

I would make this post on askdocs. This would be a better question for a medical professional.

My only suggestion is to try and gradually wake yourself up instead of trying to wake up to an alarm: they sell rings that will start vibrating when you’re supposed to wake up, alarm clocks that start off very quite and build up to louder. Personally my favorite way to wake up is to sunlight, get curtains that open on their own.

Go outside. The sun will give you energy and drain you at the same time so when it’s actually time to sleep you will be knocked out.

SSRI's can contribute to oversleeping but only nominally. Do experience sleepiness / fatigue in waking hours and feel the need to sleep for such an amount of time or do you just sleep for elongated periods without any inclination to do so?

I feel good when I'm awake. I just get 12 to 18 hours of uninterrupted sleep. I just hate myself for sleeping so much. When I wake up it feels like I wasted a whole day of doing nothing.

What is your normal schedule like, ie, is your life style sedentary and unproductive or active and busy?

Most sleep disorders are usually also accompanied by tiredness or day time sleepiness. The oversleeping could certainly be habitual / developed due to say being sedentary while giving yourself sleep deprivation due to not sleeping enough initially.
