Note 9 camera, 2 lenses right?

This is also more of a question but kinda opinion like, I've seen some posts about the camera already.

Recently I just got bored and played with the camera, holding fingers in front of the lenses, the dumb stuff. With holding my finger in front of the smaller lens, completely covering it. I noticed that if you jump to 2x zoom, only the big lens is being used.

What's the purpose of that small one? Is it only for live focus?
