RP2 - Is anyone else having these sound/Atmos issues?

Support - RP2

RP2 Unlocked (using Verizon SIM), Android 9, build P-MR1-RC003-RZR-190305.3110

In general I am really happy with my RP2. However I am experiencing some really weird and frustrating sound issues. All of these issues started happening after upgrading to Pie. At first I thought it was because I am rooted, however I recently decided to try a factory wipe/unroot and relocked the bootloader, and I am still having the below issues.

Anyway here's the issues that I'm having:

  • Sound occasionally "skips" (sounds just like a CD or vinyl record skipping)
  • Occasional short (real short, like 1 second or less) bursts of static and/or white noise while sounds are playing
  • Sometimes when starting apps/games, I get no sound at all, but ONLY in the app I just started, if I switch back to a different app, sounds in that other app work fine. (yes, I checked to make sure that it is unmuted and that the volume is turned up.) Sometimes if I kill and then restart the app without sound, it will bring back the sound. Other times, I have to reboot the phone.
  • System sounds (keyboard click, charging, phone lock/unlock) will randomly stop playing. Only a reboot will bring them back when this happens.
  • Atmos crashes. When I pull down the Quick Settings area, the Atmos icon is grayed out, and I get the dreaded "Dolby Atmos is not responding" message. Sometimes I can fiddle with it (tap it a few times) and it starts working again, but usually I have to reboot.

I have a feeling that these may be related in some way, though I'm not sure. I'm getting really close to the "this is pissing me off so much that I just can't take it anymore" phase. Really frustrating, because aside from the sound issues, this phone works beautifully. I'm almost tempted to downgrade back to Android O, but then I would have the "sound from one speaker cuts out" issue, which REALLY drove me nuts. But it's awfully tempting.
