Baby's first Halloween is fast approaching. Is my costume idea stupid, awesome, or both?

I've recently become the father of a tiny, loud, exceedingly adorable baby girl, and I want her first Halloween to be special. To be more specific, I want her to legitimately scare adults before she's six months old.

My wife has preemptively squashed any ideas that cover or paint any part of the face; hats are ok pending final approval.

My idea was this: dismember a plastic-limbed baby doll of a size similar to my daughter, attach (hot glue?) the doll arms and legs to an old button-up sleeper near existing limb placements, remove sleeves and leggings/footies, insert authentic baby, and cover with another similarly modified garment, probably black in color.

So the effect I'm going for is a double-take inducing spider baby, with nothing out of the ordinary, save for double the limb count.

My question: Would such a getup endanger my child in any way? More pressingly: Would such a getup kick ass? And am I missing any embellishments that could make baby's first Halloween even better?

EDIT: (Obligatory feigned amazement at volume and intensity of responses.) I think I can convince my wife that this costume should happen. Your comments will bolster my argument when she gets home. Should the spidering occur, there will be pics. I swear this idea popped into my warped-ass mind fully formed, and I was honestly expecting some Redditor far awesomer than I to have beat me to the punch. Since this seems not to be the case, my resolve is renewed.

I think I'll go the quietly disturbing route. Pumpkin onesies amplify the double take factor but retract from the slow, subtle unease I want to evoke.

EDIT #2: Images inbound! Check them out at the follow-up thread.
