Purge Troopers

Anyone work out stats for them? I'm thinking of just using Death Trooper stats, but I'm wondering what Purge Troopers might have to counter Jedi (cortosis armor, flamethowers, electrostaffs, etc.).

I'd imagine they'd be some weird mismash of a Royal Guard and a Magma Guard? I'd look at the stats of each and cherry pick the best of each.

It looks like the have electrostaffs, probably with cortosis quality. I would give them a bit of melee to match that and probably some parry. They are likely strong than death troopers, but still well below an inquisitor (also non-force sensitive)

Using melee or blaster fire against jedi is a bad idea, as you are giving them exactly the challenge they practised for, however regular bullets are significantly faster than blaster bolts, to the point the jedi should not be able to deflect them even if they do see them coming.

I believe slugthrowers can be blocked by lightsabers it’s just that their higher speed and rate of fire make it harder. Additionally slugs can’t be deflected back at the enemy because they melt upon contact with the blade.

Either way I don’t believe there is and evidence that Purge Troopers carry slugthrowers. If you wanted to equip a trooper with one I would recommend the imperial heavy repeater from forged in battle.

The issue Jedi have with slugthrowers isn't the speed of the bullets, it's the fact that they can't deflect the bullets without getting showered in molten metal. Jedi hunters also like to keep speciality cortosis rounds if they can afford them.

Explosives that move fast enough, Flamethrowers, and scatterguns also tend to work pretty well against a lightsaber wielding opponent if you wear something like Beskar or Cortosis to survive getting that close

I have a few thoughts about them, but no set idea of how to do them properly. The first is making them similar to their comics appearance - no more than a foot soldier. In which case I would take a Clone Trooper or Stormtrooper stat block and give it some slight tweaks and anti-jedi weaponry.

The second thought is to make them a rival, a more melee focussed Death Trooper. The biggest issue I see there is the fact that Rivals don't get Parry because they lack a strain threshold.

If I wanted them to be a real threat to Jedi, I'd make them a Nemesis with Death Trooper-esque stats and Parry.

As for the weaponry, I'd stick to what we see or know they carry. So, Electrostaffs and DC-15 Blaster Rifles. Probably stun grenades as well. We haven't seen them with anything else out of the ordinary. No flamethrowers, and certainly no cortosis. They might be trained to kill Jedi, but they weren't expected to actually succeed by themselves against a fully-fledged knight or master.

True. They usually had an Inquisitor with them and that's my bbeg anyway

IIRC, it's only Minions that can't voluntarily suffer Strain. Rivals can, they just take it as wounds. So effectively Parry X would reduce the damage by X, to a minimum of 2.

If I was going to give a Rival a parry-like ability, I would probably make it something that passively reduces damage against certain attacks under certain conditions. That's the kind of game design I would probably expect for this system.

Here are some stats I threw together a while back, might be helpful! https://imgur.com/a/PjZJBmn

You can just use the magnaguard without droid advantages. I think is pretty similar for what we've seen.

Oh I had a crack at these too, when I'm home I'll dig up the statblock I made

This was my crack at a statblock.

Mind, my players are on in XP so I beefed them up a little than I normally would

Which purge troopers? There are two kinds. The ones from the new video game and the ones from the Anoat Sector.

I'm thinking of the ones that serve with 2nd sister, so probably from the game.

Edit: the ones from Anoat sector might be closer to what I'm after though.

Best to wait until the game is out and we have a good idea of their full range of capabilities.

Yeah. I just got excited after getting my Black Series on Friday and they fit thematically with the campaign I'm running. I've used Death Troopers so far, so I think I'll be sticking with those, although I've seen a couple of good ideas for them in this thread.
