Intimate fantasy roleplay has started to create a divide between my wife and I. Seeking advice on how to stop the divide.

Not too long ago my wife and I brought roleplay into our love life. Both of us are fans of fiction and fantasy and created our own characters to some of our favorite book series.

In the beginning we both created it own avatars and roleplayed them in various romantic scenes that loosely corresponded to events.

We were both hooked and took the fanfiction to new levels, creating our own stories around our charactes that, as time went on has become enough for a small book.

Most of the writing is done by my wife as she has more free time in the day than I do, I usually edit what she writes and contribute where I can. At first, she began to write her character into scenes from the books and would ask for my thoughts on how I felt other characters would react.

Soon though my role went to more that of a DM, constantly changing parts as her character explored the world. This of course let back to the bedroom, with her character developing a relationship with a semi notable character from the books.

At first this went great, both of us really enjoying the intimacy. However as time went by I lost interest in being this character from the book. I tried suggesting going back to the original story but that only ended up in stopping the roleplay completely for a period of time and when we did pick it back up it was with a different book series.

I should point out that my wife has high anxiety and depression from PTSD. Her first husband abused her mentally and physically and it has left some lasting marks on her. I have found that she is very sensitive to criticism, so when I asked to go back to the beginning it triggered her anxiety and we stopped completely for a time.

Anyway, when we started to roleplay the second time it again started well. Before too long however I found her once again writing new characters for herself to have a love interest with, characters from the book that I was to roleplay.

As a result I've been slowly distancing myself from it and now I've found our intimacy waning lately. I know that personally I would like to have my own avatar go on the same forays as her avatars have or at the very least go back to my roleplaying my own avatars for intimate sessions. I don't think I'm asking for too much but I don't know how to bring it up, especially after the last time.

The writing and roleplay has been good for both of us and I don't want it to end. I am very worried that if I try to talk about it with her that she will stop entirety this time because of her anxiety.

How can I broach this with my wife without upsetting her about it?

TL:DR I need help on how to broach the subject of changing who my wife and I roleplay while being intimate without upsetting her and potentially ruining the role-playing completely.
