Traveling after high school

I want to travel alone to Australia after senior year but I’m worried my parents will be over the top and tell me I’ll get killed or kidnapped or something. I just feel like at 18 I am mature enough to stay safe. I’ve stayed weeks far away from my parents for programs and scholarly stuff-I don’t know what to do
