An Appeal before Tomorrow's Game.

Tomorrow we start again with a new man at the helm. I doubt there are many that are feeling extremely confident in Pioli and believes he's the right coach for this Milan long term. I expect a lot of fans are already warming up their fingers for some furious keyboard mashing, memorizing their sheet of predictable insults towards owners, management, coach and players.

It's very easy to be pessimistic, to go into tomorrow's game with our minds made up that player X, Y and Z (or the whole alphabet if you wish) are absolutely awful and can't do anything useful. That Pioli will not get us anywhere but mediocrity. That the entire ownership and management is rotten to the core and can't make a right decision to save their lives. It's very easy to dig a deep hole, fill it with reasons to keep yourself in a miserable mindset, jump in head first and abandon any hope of things to change for the better. Because you tried to be optimistic and hopeful several times before and it didn't work out, so what's the point, right? And you don't want to look like a fool to others for being optimistic and believing that things will work out this time, do you?

This is not an appeal for everyone to be optimistic, to think positively and not criticize. It's rather an appeal to try to go into tomorrow and the coming weeks with an open mind. Because if we take a critical look at preconceptions, many of them are built on reasons that are not relevant (or at least not very relevant) tomorrow. The last 8 years of struggle are not the fault of anyone at the club today. That the season has been so rough so far is not the fault of Pioli. People love to bring up stats that span over multiple coaches, managements and owners, not to mention vastly different squads (we've had a ton of changes over the years), but while they tell stories that sell newspapers, how valid are they for what's going on today? If you ask me there's not much worth taking from it.

So if the lineup tomorrow isn't exactly what you wanted, or the formation you wanted to see, try to remember that all the preconceptions that you have built up over however long might not be the be-all end-all tomorrow. If Lecce scores the first goal, or if our play doesn't look that good in the opening 15 minutes, it doesn't mean that everything is hopeless and nothing will change for the better under Pioli. If nothing else do it for yourself, because bathing in that hole filled with pessimism and negativity is a self-inflicted choice (rather than something Milan is doing to you) and speaking from my own experiences it will hurt your quality of life in more ways than you might expect.

I literally had a dream that this happened. After seeing this I’m all but convinced

I don't know how but I keep being optimistic, I hope Pioli's involvement with the players will get the best out of them, a quiet tactician clearly didn't work out. You could see that they were playing better under Gattuso who's like a friend to his players and talks to them a lot, but he lacked tactical experience. Pioli has more experience in that aspect, I hope something similar will happen like back when Gattuso took over from Montella but even better.

I don't know how but I keep being optimistic

Hold on to that mentality, it's extremely valuable in life.

I just want to see the lads play football with purpose.

I am excited for tomorrow. We took a decisive move early after realizing things were not going to improve under Papa Giam. For some reason, Pioli seems suited to this, and has experience and flexibility that we'll need as we look to find our best formation and starting XI.

We've got an opponent that we can assert ourselves over and this is a great time to hit reset and start the drive to 4th. I'm sure there will be one or two line-up choices that I question, but if the bulk of the players are the right choice, I'm going to be patient.

Looking back, I feel like I always had hesitation about Giampaolo's ability at a big club and this influenced my negativity; I don't have this with Pioli and hope it has a different outcome.

I did find it interesting that Gab Marcotti, who I know there are mixed opinions about, was quite positive to the appointment of Pioli. Someone that ticked a lot of boxes of what he consider Milan needed. He also thought Spalletti would've been a disaster hiring, someone that was the exact opposite of what Milan needed.

I found that to be quite interesting in all the #Pioliout debacle.

Good point. I respect Marcotti and found his response to be telling. Spaletti might have been frustrated with the current crop of players and that could have impacted his effectiveness.

Pioli I think just wants to succeed.

For what it's worth only Marcotti praised Samu for interpreting SS in our first game. Still, I'm not holding out hope as we have Roma, Lazio, Juventus and Napoli before December.

I’m all hopeful for tomorrow.

I’m sending my positive vibe to Leao and the gang. We will win tomorrow!!!!

Forza Milan!

I just want to see the players play well together. I imagine they feel pressure now to perform or they're gone in the Jan Window

I want to give Pioli a fair chance...but then I see projected lineups with Hakan at LW when we could use Jack, Rebic, or Leao (if Leao is not starting at striker...he should be one of the first names on the team sheet at this point)

We will see what happens when the game starts

Fair enough, I'll approach this game optimistically, with an open mind, and try to be less negative. But I'm not gonna be a blind, delusional fool either. I'm gonna call it as I see it.

Galliani, is this you?

How can you be optimistic after all these years? Many of us have tried being optimistic, and we’re still at the same point

Everyone faces a lot of adversity and disappointment in life (obviously some faces more than others, but still). You can let that turn you into a pessimist or you can choose to stay optimistic.

I'm not going to blame anyone one way or the other; be who you want to be in life. I've been guilty of letting pessimism and negativity rule my life in many occasions. It's a struggle, and some times I lose that fight. And like I wrote, it's not so much about telling people to be optimistic, but rather to try to keep an open mind and not let preconceptions built over many years that aren't necessarily valid for today's situation. Because the reality is that the failures of the last 8 years aren't relevant to what happens tomorrow. An explanation of how the club got here, yes, but at some point it's a good idea to leave the past behind. If we let our past dictate our future, then we would never learn to walk as babies, we would've let the first few failed attempts defeat us.
