Freshmen, please do not steal or damage the exit signs in the dorms. They're valued at $500 each and damaging two or more puts you into felony territory. Thats a year in jail plus fines

That is all

Pro-tip: don't steal or damage things

ILPT: Just steal one and not get a felony.

Well if you tear out a wire or something you gotta pay an electrician a couple hundred to re-wire it. If the drywall is damaged you need to pay a couple hundres to have a contractor to fix that too.

oops i replied to the post instead of the comment.

Why do they cost so much?

Yeah, I’d like to know where that number comes from on the cost of the sign. It seems that it would be a crime to just remove emergency signage?

They probably have a battery backup built in and have to comply with a bunch of safety standards. Just a guess though

15
IkLmsMechE•

That doesn't really explain the $500

I think part of the cost comes from wrecking the ceiling tiles in the process of knocking down the sign

Electricians are expensive.

it's not about what they cost, it's about what they're "valued" at
which is likely the absolute max of material costs, production costs, shipping, labor costs to install, plus profit on all of that

it's not that the school actually spends that much, just that they can pretend that they do

Tbh if I were a university and a student vandalized $1000 of school property, I’d kick their ass out

22
Chaindriver•

Remember if they kick them out they can’t keep taking their shitload of money they pay to go to school. Why would you kill easy money for a little damage

18
anniecakescsci ‘19•

Yeah, but it’s not like they’re hurting for students wanting to go to the school. Someone else will take their place.

3†
Chaindriver•

They don’t want to be kicking students out for something that happens so often

2
chillwifi•

It's usually charged to their student account.

4
freyhackOP•

that's really up to police, it's become such a problem that often times investigations overrides HRL or HRL lets the police handle it. HRL discipline for this at a minimum is fines to cover costs and getting kicked out of your hall

Life pro tip: want to get out of your dorm contract? Steal an exit sign and have a friend snitch on you

Someone needs to share this with the person/people who keep kicking in walls and breaking exit signs in Radius.

yuujinn•

pls stop damaging things so that they can actually give me some financial aid. :,)

spacehiphopnerd•

Why is this even a thing? Like someone kicked the door at centennial and shattered the glass...why?

I thought that was covered with Flexdine?

How about just not engaging in any assholery of the damaging or taking things that are not yours kind?

It’s worked for me.

4
asboy0009•

There’s tracking mark put on those exit signs that HRL can track back to you so I wouldn’t risk it.

3
dskunkler•

Minneapolis will plea you down but why even fuck with it

1
Kohwahlah•

"two or more?" so that means damaging just one is fine? xD

1
freyhackOP•

Damaging one is misdemeanor vandalism, two or more is felony and carries jail not exceeding one year and fines not exceeding 3000. Damaging one means you probably just get fines and disciplined by HRL, two or more and the police take care of it

Frontier first floor kinda pops off on the poor exit signs lmao
