Incredible to think that when Roo gave up the captaincy that he and Mav Weller were the two fan favourites for the role. Both were trending upwards and looking like they would be very good players but both fell off a cliff shortly after.

I've read we have a 2 year contract in front of him on but on very small coin. So we've been happy for him to explore his options

He hasn't been delisted. He has a 2 year contract offer in front of him.
But if he wants to go to Carlton, then we will delist him to make it easier for him to get there in the same way Sydney did with Membrey.

Probably best for Newnes, he was a super consistent performer for 4 years and has had a huge drop-off. Hopefully can revitalise his career at Carlton, can definitely see him playing 22 games for them next year. Woulda been sweet if he went during the FA period and got us a nice pick though
Sad that the compo we would have got would be higher than what will be our first pick. We really could have used it.

Definitely. Looked at one point like he could become an elite part of our team and then just became a role player that was inconsistent.
Might still be a good pickup for us. Would probably still be best 22 at least at the start of the season and hopefully make some of our younger fringe players like Dow, O'Brien, Setterfield etc lift to complete for his spot.
His drop off in form has been exaggerated. He was really good at the start of the season, had a bit of a slump in the middle but finished the season strong. He was a FA this year so we were hoping to get a compo pick for him but cant anymore.
Gags (list manager) has said we are happy to keep him but are also happy to help him get to whichever club he wants. And we received Roberton and Membrey as DFA in similar ways where they were "delisted" to make it easier for them, so we cant exactly not do the same thing for one of our own players.
