It's because for the pro-abortion side, they've convinced themselves they're in some existential war against purely evil forces who want to literally enslave the world and usher in a fourth reich. When that's the premise you're beginning from, nothing is off the table and you certainly don't owe your opponent any degree of humanity.

The anti-abortion side just thinks abortion is wrong and wants to make people aware of their views.

That's a yikes from me.

Not exactly, they think its wrong, and therefore no one should be allowed to do it. Which is a stretch.

The "pro-abortion" people are saying if you think its wrong or right, you can decide for yourself, but the anti-abortion people are saying we've made your mind up for you, and you need to start chugging Vitamin C on your own to induce the abortion.

It's because pro-lifers tend to not be as emotive about the issue, particularly when they're also non-religious.

I'm pro-life, but have no direct experience with abortion. I just know that morally, I've reached the conclusion that liberal abortion laws can never be justified. It was a rational choice in a lot of ways, I've never had to go through the dilemma of whether to keep a baby or not. Whereas pro-choicers get sucked in to a very anecdotal way of perceiving the broader issue, and they'll typically use some very extreme and rare cases to justify their viewpoint.

Which in some ways, is quite telling. If you have to immediately jump to cases of rape, incest or life and death circumstances; even when you're discussing much broader legislation, I think you know there's something inherently wrong with the concept as a whole. You can't justify expansive access to abortion on the basis of 1% of known cases that potentially deserve to be extenuating circumstances. It's disingenuous and shuts down conversation.

Those pieces of shit will never be "good humans" for trying to use the government to strip away health & reproductive rights. Fundamentalism is a scourge on our political system

How does thinking that abortion is murder and shouldn't be legal make a person a piece of shit?

4†

killing babies is wrong.

They're not babies, and many would actually suffer if forced into the world by these fundamentalist legislators.

a video full of losers... the sad thing is both sides think they've accomplished something. How do you live in a city and not learn to ignore stuff like this on the street?

These people act like fucking animals

They all should have been aborted.

I think the lesson we can draw here is that many, many people passionately hold views for which they cannot clearly articulate the underlying reasons, and instead resort to slogans or anger. They owe it to themselves to understand the roots of their beliefs so that they can better represent and defend their views.

This video convinced me that some people probably should be aborted. (especially irrational people who scream loudly or spit on other people in public)

Kelvin_Inman•

I thought it was Pro-Choice, not Pro-Abortion, because that'd mean you'd just want all abortions for everyone even if they don't want an abortion.

1
Piratecxke123•

No lol, if people are pro-death penalty that doesn't mean they want death for everyone does it?

You can fix this problem if people would just use condoms or other forms of birth control

I think that's a rather reductionist point of view. The problem here is that people on both sides of this argument talk right past each other and it literally goes nowhere.

One side says "my body my choice/anti abortion= anti women" while the other side is saying, "a fetus is a living person, therefore terminating it is equivalent to murder." I actually don't agree with the pro-life side but it's a much more coherent argument as opposed to the shout down talking points of the pro choice movement. There are plenty of women who are anti abortion. It's absurd to insinuate that anti abortion is anti women or just a bunch of men trying to control women's bodies. The problem with the pro choice side of the argument is that it's too difficult to address the main argument from the pro life side because the science isn't really out on when exactly a human becomes a human. Is potential human life essentially already a human life or is it just a clump of cells with potential to become human?

My stance is that I'm pro-choice to a point. Because I think the answer to the previous question is an extreme gray area. I think abortion should be done rarely and as early as possible because I think there is a point where it is largely just a clump of cells with potential to become human. However, at a certain point in its growth it is a clearly formed human looking form with much more potential.

I think this conversation could be much more productive if the pro-choice side actually addressed the pro-life sides points. But that would involve much more tact, intellect, and effort than the typical smear tactic shout down shaming that comes from the pro-choice movement. What's easier is riling up everyone into a mellenial #metoo angry mob and telling all of them that the other side HATES women and wants to control you

In most places the cutoff for abortion is 24 weeks. 24 weeks is also when the brain starts any significant activity and survival outside the womb is possible.

This whole issue has already been debated and conditions created 30 years ago. I have no idea why it's coming back up. No one is arguing for abortion up until birth.

1
MastaKwayne•

That's only partially correct. Yes, in MOST places, abortions past 24 weeks don't happen. But there are only 23 states where there is a strict 24 week cutoff. 7 states allow past 25 weeks and 6 of those 7 have literally no cutoff for abortion. A small number of late term abortions happen every year but it is still around 10,000 late term abortions per year for 0 medical reason or rare circumstance such as rape. 10,000 late term abortions every year because the mother literally just decides she doesn't want to deal with a child.

Now as I said, I'm mostly pro choice. I'm not religious but I also think that the pro life side of the argument makes some points that are hard to counter. My personal opinion is that it's a gray are and the science is out on when a human becomes a human. That's why I believe there should be much stricter regulations on abortions after 24 weeks and abortions in general. At the end of the day I'm not convinced a 13 week old fetus is just a flushable clump of cells either.
