I CAME OUT! And IT FEELS GREAT and you helped me do it r/lgbt. THANK YOU!
First off I wanted to say that this is my main account and I was recently posting under an alternative account "188902". The reason I did that was I didn't want a friend of mine to know that I was thinking of death as a solution to what I was feeling. The two main posts I made under that name was first this one, then this one.
For those who haven't read any of my posts before, I am a 21 year old college student I live at home with my mom and younger brother. I have been seeing a therapist for gender and I have been seriously looking into transitioning from male to female.
In my first post a lot of you guys told me I should come out to my mom. I knew that was something I wanted to do but I just need to be told it. So I brought it up to my therapist who I have been seeing for over 3 months. She told me if I was ready to do it and she offered to have my mom come in for a session and come out to her in the session. I liked that idea because I didn't think my mom would understand what I was trying to explain and the therapist could back me up.
Well Wednesday came yesterday and I went to the therapy session with my mom I read the letter I wrote and she said "well I didn't see that coming, but I still love you and it's going to be ok." She put her hand on mine and I was shaking really bad and my mom noticed and ask me if I needed a hug. IT WAS AWESOME!!!!! My mom asked a lot of questions and even made some light hearted jokes saying "Oh well when you were born we thought you were going to be a girl and you had a pink bedroom and bunnies on the wall." My mom even said that this is a happy situation! Then she really surprised me and started asking what am I going to do to feel better about this? Later after the session I explained to my mom all the things that people in my position do like Hormone replacement therapy (HRT), Facial feminization surgery (FFS), and Sex Reassignment Surgery (SRS). She was very supportive and even said "ok, well how much does it cost?" All night whenever I looked at her she just smiled back at me. She also has told me like 5 times last night that it's going to be ok.
Also my therapist said she is really close to giving me the official diagnoses of Gender Identity Disorder which means she will write me a note and I can go to the doctor and go on Hormones!
THANK YOU people of r/lgbt!!!!!!
TL;DR: I came out to my Mom and she still loves me and is still supportive and wants to help pay for my hormones.
Also as a interesting look back here is my first post before I came out or told anyone. Here is my 2nd post where I told the first person ever who was counselor on my campus. Both of those are 6 months old.
AGAIN THANK YOU REDDIT!!!!!!
