washpost writes smear piece attacking tiktok. primary sources are US "china hawk" politicians, Government lobbying groups and a former executive at facebook. "democracy dies in darkness" really means being a propaganda rag for NATSEC warmongers, lobbyists and corporate oligarchs

Some former employees said the company’s strict content rules were designed to help protect the platform from the anger and negativity seen elsewhere on the Web. The company, they said, wanted to preserve it as a haven of light and positive video, where political disputes were banned and social discussions were fun and tame.

Yes how dare tiktok keep political nonsense off their platform. what right again does the US government, under the threat of sanctions under the guise of "national security" reviews, have to coerce companies into dictating content on their platform? once again "freedom of speech" is just an empty slogan to Americans and especially those who bash China the hardest for supposedly not adhering to it. it only applies when convenient.

"free speech" is not a value if you only adhere to it when it's convenient. at the very least the Chinese are open about what they do and what they believe. They don't lie about caring about it only to do the very censorship that they call a "human rights" violation when "bad" countries do it.

Let's savor the hypocrisy of it all when US social media platforms are actively censoring the truth about HK SAR to promote a false narrative created by the US government and the HK hanjians.

The hypocracy is just absurd

look at this paragraph

Facing scrutiny for its privacy practices, TikTok in July retained consultants at the cybersecurity firm Special Counsel to analyze the app’s source code and data-storage practices. Doug Brush, a company vice president, said Monday that his team discovered some “low-risk vulnerabilities” but that there was “no indication” that the Chinese government accessed TikTok users’ data. Brush said that ByteDance committed to paying his firm an undisclosed amount in consulting fees, and that a fuller report of the consultants’ findings was not yet ready for review.

Tiktok pays a consultant firm because who the hell would do consulting for free and suddenly it's framed as nefarious while later on in the article they quote a fucking facebook executive to smear tiktok. yeah totally no conflict of interests if you have an agenda to push/s

Any Chinese company that gains any kind of foothold in US will be banned. No matter who that company is. Chinese cars will be banned over national security and imagined spying threat. Chinese food products will be banned for being polluted or bad quality or whatever excuse they can find.

And electronics and software? No chance!!This is the future that is coming for Chinese companies. This is the new red scare. It will probably continue for the next 10-15 years until Chinese GDP becomes much bigger than US.

So Chinese companies should simply stop investing or gaining market in US. Focus on developing countries and some countries that are currently under US hegemony but dependent on Trade with China. Those are the ones that will not ban China due to US pressure or just hatred for China's rise.

And finally, kick 2 US companies out for every Chinese company getting banned. They will allow Chinese companies 10-15 years from now cause they will want to gain access to the huge chinese market. It will take 10-15 years for US arrogance to reduce enough. And their desire to somehow cause a China collapse will also reduce a bit. Pragmatism will come. But it will take time.

I can't believe they're afraid of TikTok. It's a goofy meme app. The content is only few seconds long and it's mostly teenagers / young adults who post content

Pretty much my thoughts - if masses of American teenagers delete it - no big loss

Democracy dies in darkness, and we are helping it!

I think they forget to print the second half.
